28 Nosler 195 Berger vs. New 180 ELDM

Scratch that. I guess I'm still looking for a load with the 195s. I just got some H1000 and a box of the 180 ELDM's. Hopefully before I burn the barrel up, I'll find a load that's consistent. Right now it'll shoot 1" at 400 for 4-5 rounds, then fling one 6" high and then another one 3" low...

Temperature Sensitivity of Alliant Reloder 26

Here's a quote from Alliant from last year. They did tell me that they didn't recommend R26 for the 28 Nosler because the fill ratio would be too little. Eric, Alliant has three temp stable propellants by their chemistry. These are AR-Comp, Reloder-16 and Reloder-23. Reloder-26 by its...

28 Nosler 195 Berger vs. New 180 ELDM

I've got a Ryan Pierce 28 Nosler rifle shooting the 195s. He's beginning to recommend N570 because R33 is such a dirty powder. I've finally found a load for my rifle. It's 79.8 grains of N570, .025 jump and the brass necks turned to .015. I guess my chamber is a little snug. I wasn't able to...

How long does it usually take a barrel to break in

R33 is dirty powder as well. Ryan Pierce and a few others who specialize in the 28 are recommending VihtVouri N570. I'm running it in my 28/195 combo. It's throated long for the 195s though. But I'm right around 80 grains and getting 3040 fps. YMMV

28 Nosler 195 Berger vs. New 180 ELDM

Any body have any idea what the max case length is for the 28 Nosler. I have one that was throated for the 195's and I can't get a consistent velocity. Next step is neck turning.

    Any Love for the 7mm-08

Just watch the hunting show On Your Own Adventures with Randy Newberg. There's a bunch of episodes on YouTube. I'm pretty sure he shoots a 7mm-08 from Howa. He's killed a bunch of elk with it.

    Some WY advice

What units did you put in for?

    28 nosler

I sent Alliant an email asking for load data on the 28 Nosler using R26. I also asked about how temp stable the powders were. This is there response. I hope this clears the air a little..... Eric, Alliant has three temp stable propellants by their chemistry. These are AR-Comp, Reloder-16 and...

    28 nosler

That's funny Mr. Pierce has my gun as I type. He's converting it from a 7wsm to a 28 Nosler. Hoping to get it back around March 1st. I can't wait.

    Texas Heart Shot

Watched my brother take this shot at an antelope with horrible results. His first and second shots went over its back. Third shot hit him in the lower jaw. Absolutely horrible. The wind was blowing 30 mph and we later found his scope mount was loose. Anyways, fourth shot was a Texas heart shot...

Montana or Colorado for first elk hunt?

Thanks guys.... I think me and my brother have decided on Region 3 in Montana. After last year's incident on my Wyoming antelope hunt, I'm choosing to go where there are fewer people. I would rather put up with grizzly bears than people. There are numerous other reasons for Montana, like, longer...

    Wyoming 2017

Exactly what TopGun said. Print off the draw odds stats and figure out which units you'd be able to draw. The look at those units and figure out which ones have the most public/accessible land. Buy a GPS with land ownership chip in it. Practice all summer shooting in as much wind as you can...

    Question for elk hunting

Sounds bad, but after the holidays when I have time to actually commit to a workout program, I'll be starting this one. I'm planning my first elk hunt in Montana for 2017. Basic Elk Hunting Workout Program | Elk101.com | Eat. Sleep. HUNT ELK!

    Best Gun safe?

I have a Stack-on Elite series 28 gun safe and I love it. To date it holds everything I need it to, including cd's with family photos on it, and other important papers. One of the reasons I purchased this safe was the fire rating, but more importantly, the water rating. It is waterproof up to 2...
