Well I have been coming to this sight for a while now,but this is the first time I have been able to really talk to people. I have really enjoyed it and will have to search a little for the right bullet and powder. I was between the 06 or a 7mag. Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

Well I have lots of time to work up some loads and try different things. I know shot placement is more important than size. I want to start planing a elk hunt maybe in the next three years or so. however I know nothing about it or even how to get started.

About the 300 win mag, I am only 59 years old but some what disabled. Had two neck surgeries, I have two steel rods, 10 screws, and two plates in my neck and am eat up with arthritis. I don't think I can deal with the recoil.

Thank you, this is what I need to know because I have never shot at anything as large as an elk. And I have been reloading my own ammo for years. 22/250,223,35rem,and 3 different hand guns,but I have never loaded 30/06, or for big game. I only was looking at the Barnes because it is so accurate...

I want to shot at least 500yr. Yes I have read that the Barnes needs to be at 1800 on impact. But I thought I needed a 180gr to keep up enough energy and still have enough speed. Thank you for getting back with me.

I am not sure what powder yet, but I usually start with the highest velocity and lowest pressure. Thank you.

I want to go on a elk hunt such as this sometime, but I am somewhat disabled but can still ride and camp, I just can't walk long distances or very fast. Also, what is the average distance for a good shot. M1955
