    IMR 4451 and 7977 Enduron Powders ...

I have used both powders very successfully in a number of cartridges. Favorite was 7977 in 7mm Rem Mag getting 3,000FPS in 160 gr ABs with 69 grs of powder - and ridiculously accurate at all ranges with low SD. Search is over for me on that cartridge.

Best Platform for a first long gun

go 308 win. all day long. short action = lighter and more nimble gun. it also has plenty of punch with less than 50 fps difference to 180 gr bullet. i load 165's to 2800 fps which is all you get from factory 30-06 and do it with a 22 inch handy barrel. do NOT skimp on optics, trigger, and...

    Hodgdon Hybrid 100V

I use H100V exclusively in my 270 Win with almost impossible results and no pressure issues on 140 and 150 grain bullets. 3030 on 140s and 2900 for 150s. More incredible is the SD...which is rarely more the 15 fps. I do use F215 primers. Going with me on ibex hunt in the fall, bang flop...

    Sheep Bullet Selection

Awesome hunt lined up, good luck amigo. As for bullets I'd use an accubond or gameking (lots of options) for no other reason than barring a broadside shot, a highly frangible bullet on a hard raking shot or front on is risky for deep penetration. My stone sheep guide shared some stories about...

    25-06 on aoudad???

I hunted aoudad south of alpine, tx (incredible countryside) in the mountains on our side of the rio. It was wonderful and i put a big banana ram on ice using a 7mm RM. Climbing around in the mountains all day - it's 9,000' in places - i'd go with something you can shoot well and carry. 25-06...

    270 win vs 280 ai

Everyone does it their way, and thank God we have a country - what's left of it - that gives us choices for arms to use afield.

    270 win vs 280 ai

I missed the question on the whole 270 v 270 ai v 280 ai. For the range or hunting, even long range hunting? If hunting, putting a 30" pipe on a stock is a little nutty, especially on a mountain hunt (read - sheep country). Stick with the 270 in case your ammo is lost, EVERYONE will have more...

Would Appreciate some advice...308 vs. 300WSM

TOTALLY agree on box length. I have a Hart built 300 WSM on McMillan stock that is money all day long, BUT the length of the box prevents me from developing longer length bullets for hunting, e.g. TTSX etc. One at a time down the pipe is fine at the range, but for hunting, you need to go with...

    7977 - feedback anyone?

Just grabbed a can of this new powder and plan to load for a 7mm Rem Mag pushing 168 berger hunting pills. Anyone try any or have suggested starting loads? The Hodgdon site doesn't list for the 168. Or other cartridges perhaps? I like the claimed temp stability as I use my 7mm in very warm...

    308 reload questions advice appreciated

308 is one of the easiest cartridges to get shooting well quickly anywhere. The advice above is excellent in terms of bullets and powders. 4064, MR-2000 (not mentioned but very good and meters well), Varget, 4895, CFE223, RL-15, all work well. You didn't mention the purpose of your load...

    26 Nosler Wildcats - 28 Nosler (284)

I was just at SHOT and at Nosler exhibit and they officially launched (read - no more a wildcat with SAAMI), the Nosler 28. Impressive ballistics.

    25-06 powder

I actually rebarreled and re-chambered my Sako 75 25-06 into a 270 for broader versatility. As for powders, my 25-06 like H100V and RL-19. Great velocity and accuracy. My 270 now shoots 140 gr BTs at 3,000 (chrony'd) with H100V using Fed215's and 54 grs. powder. Start with those two, and use...

    26 Nosler Wildcats - 28 Nosler (284)

The Nosler 28 was launched at SHOT, I was just there and it's SAAMI approved. Impressive ballistics, claimed anyway….time will always tell as we all know.

    IMR's new line of powders....

New powders are always exciting but in my estimation are always just marginally different (read, not always better) than what's worked for a long time. The last powder I recall that really made a splash was RL-17 for short magnums. H100V is **** good too. We'll see but an extra 30- 50 FPS for...
