    300WSM and Hornady

I'm hoping the ammo officianados here can help me with a memory check. A couple of years ago I purchased a Browning A Bolt Stalker in 300 WSM. With the rifle and scope package I was given a box of ammo. I swear it seemed that the ammo was 139gr Hornady factory ammo and listed the muzzle velocity...

    A Bolt and accuracy...an oxymoron?

I shot a Remington 700 rechambered in 7MM STW for several years. Someone offerred me too much money for it(at the time) and I sold it. Been trying to buy it back ever since! I replaced it with an A Bolt Synthetic Stalker in 300 WSM and topped it with a VX-1 3x9x50. For the life of me I haven't...

    Therohetical Hunting Scenario!

Tank I'm feelin' your pain brother! I moved back to NC after 35 years, back to the coast where I grew up and hunted as a boy. Couldn't wait to get back! I left a little 36 acre piece of hardwood bottoms and swamps down there that was bordered by thousands of acres of state-owned, non-huntable...

Need help from the 7 mm STW boys

Hey guys, I'm an big STW fan too, used one on hogs and whitetail in Florida. I can tell you it surprised me but a 140 grain factory Corelokt did a great job on both! Don't remember having a second shot required from 50 yds on out to over 300.

    whitetail guns

There are a TON of hunters I know here in coastal NC that hunt with a 243 and absolutely swear by it. Kill both deer and coyote with it regularly. And it's accurate enough to do some decent bean/field work for the average NC deer and particularly coyote. My only question on the caliber for deer...

    Therohetical Hunting Scenario!

You may in fact have found the "Grail"! Back to the bowling ball heavy bullet and, from what I hear and read, outstanding accuracy for the yardages mentioned! Hard to beat that combination for the average brush hunter!

    Therohetical Hunting Scenario!

Enjoy Brother! And aim just a little to one side or the other of that sapling if it's hiding his shoulder!

    Hello from Florida...and some questions

Welcome to the site, it's taught me alot and I'm constantly referring friends to LRH! As for your Florida hunting the 6MM is a great little caliber and will do well on the average game hunted, even pigs, in Florida. Shot one for awhile there myself(20 years in Volusia and 9 years in Columbia...

    Therohetical Hunting Scenario!

I guess I'm gonna have to qualify my response based on the reactions...I in no way endorse blindly shooting at an animal just because I can see hair. Never have, never will, predator or prey! But if I have the proper shooting lane/sight picture, based on my ability and my marksmanship, or if I'm...

    Therohetical Hunting Scenario!

I'm a big fan of large, bowling ball type heavy bullets and short, fast handling guns in brush situations. Bunches of years in the Florida swamps and palmettos with big pigs. A scoped Contender/Encore pistol in 45-70 with a 1.25x4 power would be the first choice. You're probably not gonna get a...

I guess we don't hunt much in the south

Partner I can feel your pain! I moved back to NC from a 35 yr hitch in Florida. Public land, I mean land where you don't have to do alot of duckin' has gottn' scarce! Nothing I love more than walking and glassing but even in NC you better have a thick wallet to hunt. Everything is leased! And I...
