Your Longest Archery Big Game Kill

Shouldn't the question be, "What's your closest bow kill?" The object of archery hunting is to get close. That's the real challenge isn't it. I've seen trail cam pics and run across too many elk in the woods that have been lost. My closest kill on a bull was three steps. After we locked eyes I...

338 Lapua load finally worked out!!!

Barrel is 26" and 1-9 twist I believe. I thought they were hummin too. My last lot of powder I was shooting 92 grs powder and was happy to get 2850 with the Sierras. I tried 92 grs today with the scenars at around 3130 but the accuracy wasn't there.

338 Lapua load finally worked out!!!

Looks like I finally got things figured out. Took me over a year and thought maybe I had a lemon at one point. So I wanted to post some load data for helping others. Shot new loads today. Got a new lot of RL25 to try. Primers are Rem. 9 1/2M. First load is gonna be for hunting. 90.5 grs...

Do you hunt big game with a bow?

Yes... Been bowhunting for 20+ years. I use a traditional recurve in September to chase elk, then switch to the 338 Lapua in late October for rifle season. Kinda the extreme on both ends. Just love to hunt and shoot.

    Hodgdon Superformance for 338 Lapua?

I see a number of folks that use H4831sc for 250 grain bullets in 338 lapua. I looks like hodgdons superformance has a similar burn rate with possible better velocities. I'm curious if anyone out there has tried this combo.

When is the Montana mule deer rut?

My wife and I have real good luck around the 12th of November. That's her birthday and we always spend a few days in the woods for her birthday party. We hunt central Montana and the second week in November has been good to her. I've also seen some big papas towards the end of season too...

    Reloading suggestions for .338 Lapua

If my measurements are correct, the jam length in my 110 fcp and the 300 grain Berger was right at 3.80". I had the bullet loaded with a light load of RL-25 at 86.5 grains. My OAL was right at 3.76" when I shot the one time group of 1" at 400. That puts me about .040" off the lands. I tried...

    Reloading suggestions for .338 Lapua

I have a savage 110 fcp and started loads with the berger 300 hybrid. I've heard some great results with the 300 hybrid and retumbo, but where I needed the bullet seated, it wouldn't fit in my mag so I switched to the hornady 285 bthp. My best group to date was actually with the 300 berger...

    Reloading suggestions for .338 Lapua

Well, I switched to Retumbo and I think I have exhausted every load possible with the Hornady 285 bthp bullet. This morning was overcast, 69 degrees and 0 wind. 89 retumbo shot 1 5/8" at 300 yrds. 90 retumbo shot 1.5" at 300 and 91 shot 1 6/8" at 300. These are all at 3.690 OAL (approx...

    250 VS 300 Berger .338?

Does anybody have any experience shooting the Berger 250's in .338 LM? Just curious how they shoot and what kind of OAL they might have. I've shot a number of the 300's, but where they need to be seated, I can't fit them in my mag.

    Reloading suggestions for .338 Lapua

"Industrial looking".... That's a pretty good term. It's definitely a monster. I was going through some of my .243 stuff, thinking of pounding some coyotes the next couple of months while the elk and deer have babies. Man they seem small after dealing with the "puta" the last few months.
