How far out will you kill an elk by yourself?

Was hunting in UT, off snowmobiles in knee deep snow Found an elk herd just 100yds away, easy shot on a cow to fill my tag. BUT, they were on the other side of a very deep ravine. Just the climb down and up to get over there would have been tough, much less the pack out. Passed, not that much...

Take a moment to consider STDs as you prep for hunting season...

I'm battling invasive Japanese Stilt grass. Apparently brought in by a logging truck. Ugh!!

Help me get started ML hunting

Tip of the day: Mark your range rod with tape to indicate at what depth is a fully loaded charge. Prevents double charges.

Help me get started ML hunting

Before you buy the Ultra-Lite, decide on what ignition system you want. They have several. I went with the red full plastic jacket and regret it. Almost every shot had delayed ignition between primer pop and powder ignition. Like 1/4 to 1/2 second. (Been shooting MZs for over 20 years.) Using...

    What’s your spookiest hunting experience?

Ring Neck Pheasant in Korea got me. Walking a fenceline in the DMZ area, towards the Swiss-Swede Camp. The guy with me keeps emphasizing to "stay on the trail" due to landmines. That, and the signs on the fence really get your attention. When at one point, a pheasant burst out of the brush at my...

    Powdervalley or Powdersvalley?

I didn't see a previous post on this, but there is a Powder Valley imposter. Even using their cartridge head logo. Just be careful and make sure you are going to powdervalley and not powdersvalley (notice the extra S in the website address). Just a waste of time. I followed it through the...

Lost My Ammo, Had To Buy Some at Local Store

Never ammo, but did forget the quiver that snaps onto my bow. Left it sitting right outside the back door, and didn't notice until I arrived at my spot after a 1 hour drive. Lesson learned.

    Suppressor purchasing process advice

A suppressor can be transferred from person to person, just like any other NFA item. BUT, it has to be someone in-state. The seller holds the suppressor until ATF sends them the approved Form 4, at which time you give the buyer the suppressor. Have to have the approved form in hand first! If...

    Blood trailing in Coyote country

Coyotes can be quick on the kill. I was bowhunting and shot a doe. She ran into a thicket, about 40 yards, and I heard her crash, out of sight. After getting down the tree in the climber, I was packing it up when I heard yipping. Immediately went to the doe and there were 5 coyotes on her...

    Shipping to a gunsmith

A UPS Store kicked back a package I was sending, a shotgun barrel going in for porting. Just a barrel, nothing else. Got a phone call to come and pick it up. So somehow they were able to scan/x-ray it? Apparently gun parts were not acceptable at this location.
