I just picked up a Cooper back country rifle in 6.5 X 284. Went with a vx6 4-12.
It does have a remove able brake and 1.5 lb trigger.
So far just shot 200 yards and very accurate with 140 gr Bregers.
Very easy recoil to handle and grouping great.
This is the first 6.5 X 284 I have owned...
I also picked a 7 mm this spring and trying Horndy Super-performance ammo in a few different bullets. After I get some range time in two weeks will report back.
My son is coming over Sunday and we are going shoot a box 115 NBT and 110 NAC.
Interested in performance of both.
Really like shoot the 257 over my 7 mm rem or 30-06gun)
You don't use a sled? I guess I sure won't be dragging a sled out in the woods so be able to hit off the bipod makes sense. Sure is a lot less work on the home range for sure.
I will get a box of each and see how they both group.
Question on a 25-06 AI, it is a different case than 25-06 Remington?
He will shoot factory ammo and pretty good options for that caliber.
I am very happy with the Weatherby, shooting 100 gr Norma Spitzers off a bipod at 100 yards held...
My son is torn between a 257 WB Mag in the Remington or a Sako 25-06.
We does not hand load so wanted to shoot the Hornady Super Performance factory ammo. Sounds as if will be very happy with either.
Picked up a Cooper rifle in 257 WB Mag with a 26" barrel. Just breaking in the barrel with 100 gr Norma Spitzers and holding 1/2 group at 100 yards.
Need help with which ammo to use for fall hunting in Michigan for Whitetails.
Shot as close as 50 yards out past 300 yds.
Choices
Current 100...
Need to scope two rifles
A. 7 mm Rem mag with 24" barrel.
B. 257 Weatherby Mag with 26" barrel.
Both will be used for PA and Mich whitetail with shots 50 to 400 yards. Maybe a hog hunt and hopefully trip west for Mule Deer and Elk. Also some wood chucks from time to time.
Need large...
Putting together a Cooper 56 Classic in 257 Wby Mag with a 26" barrel.
Scope considering is a Night Force SHV 4-14 56.
Adding to my current .223 varmit gun and 7 mm Rem mag.
Will use gun for white tails in Michigan, hog in PA and hopefully a trip west for Prong Horn next year.
My long shots...
You made some very good points. The 204 does have some advantages including the bullets destroy them selves if you miss. Will use the gun for wood chucks just as much as yotes.
This turned up on a search and it is a few years old. I down to a 204 Ruger in a Kimber varmit rifle 24" barrel or a 243 Winchester M70 super grade with a 22" barrel.
Started thinking 204 but like the idea of using 243 for deer. My other rifle is a 7mm rem mag.
If not reloading and shooting...
Maybe my 12 ga pump with slugs or buckshot make more sense for up close hog hunting, so for deer hunting which scope? The 7 mm does not have fixed sites.
What is a good set up for detachable mounts to swap scopes? That sounds the best set up for my areas we hunt. My vision is not the best...
