    A Few Quick Questions

For what you are wanting - a rifle that will be big enough for protection against bears - and yet can be used for coyotes at distance, I would think the 308 is the best option with the limitations you set. The Henry Long Ranger is intriguing to me - it seems to have that compromise of a good...

    Range finder or RF binoculars?

Sig 10k has been great for me. Can program multiple rifle profiles into it (I know it will hold at least 7 - that's what is currently in mine). It reads all environmental conditions except wind, and you can input that. It has been stupid accurate in providing shooting solutions at all ranges...

Single digit E.S. dont mean squat.

ES is used to refer to the velocity differences between shots. It is not a measure of group size and has nothing to do with distance. Adding more shots will NEVER decrease the ES. It only has the potential to raise it.

What is your baseline zero a dial adjustable scope?

Coming late to the party, as we just got back from Africa and I'm just catching up on emails. So, in answer to your question, no matter what distance you zero at, your bullet will never be lower than your scope height at close range. When using a 200 yard zero in a 30 caliber rifle shooting a...

Suggestions on a new range finder or binoculars

One more vote for the Sig10k. Ranging is better than anything else I’ve used and solutions have been pretty much spot on. I have 5 different rifle profiles programmed in to it and it has been good for all of them. Glass does have a blue tint, but good other than that. Carry my old Leica 1600 in...

    800 yard rifle

Wow! - 6 pages in 18 hours. Must be a lot of folks staying out of the cold today:) As has been stated, there is nothing mentioned in your goals that a 300wm won't do. Those who stated you just need to "tune up" your current rifle might have missed your comment that it is a 15 pound target...

    Colorado 4th season 2022

Really nice muley and a great shot. Where was the hit and what did the bullet do? I have a model 70 in 325wsm that I wouldn’t mind rebarreling to 300. Have used 210 and 215 Berger’s in another 300 WSM that shoot ok, but can’t load them as far out as I’d like due to magazine length. Maybe the...

What is the Typical Distance Range You Kill Big Game At?

Although I have spent a lot of time, effort and money trying to improve my long range capabilities, and have taken multiple big game animals between 500-650, and a couple in the 800 yard range, I know my average would be less than 350. Last fall, I had an antelope hunt planned in New Mexico and...

    My first custom rifle

Not sure if it was mentioned whether or not you feel you are an experienced shooter - just not a long range one. If you have lots of trigger time and know that recoil won't bother you, I would choose the PRC just because of availability of over the counter ammo. I personally like the 30 nosler...

    Runnig moose shoot?

Unless your friend is Bob Lee Swagger, who can make head shots at 700 yards on a target in the back of a truck bouncing down a third world dirt road at 30 miles per hour, then NO, it’s not a good idea!

    QL assistance

I bought the QL program to work up loads for a new rifle in a caliber that, at the time, I couldn't find much load data for. Just thought I would check it out by putting in some of the loads I had in other calibers that I already had chronograph and range data for. It wasn't even close. I...
