I did shoot 250 lb. Hog with a 200 gr AB out of my 340. Yep point of impact was the size of my fist and he died right there. Bullet was found floating around abdominal cavity. Honestly I wanted an exit hole. That's when I changed to barnes for hunting.
Loaded them and shot 1 moa out of my weatherby 340. Recoil increased substantially. If you like shooting different bullets give it a go. Nothing a 225 or 250 gr wouldn't kill.
Retumbo and sierra gameking 180 gr . Most difficult gun I've reloaded.
I bedded mine, changed triggers out, used honady's comparator and tried many different bullets. Finally a friend suggested sierra game king because its softer and easier. It worked for me. Enjoy.
I have seen the practice of "tapping the scope". This is no different than hitting a TV to make it work. Stick to the variables that can be measured. I have and shoot the SHV as well as the NXS, you should be very pleased with your choice; "no tapping required"!
I have seen the practice of "tapping" the side of the scope. This is no different than hitting a TV to make it run. All things being equal, stick to the variables that can be measured. I think you will be very satisfied with the SHV; "No tapping required"!
Re: Weatherby custom shop vanguard
Just checking to see if its still for sale. How many shots fired, if you reload what loads have you had success with. Would you consider selling the gun and scope seperately.
Shooting 115gr berger in vangard 24 in. barrel . I was able to get one ragged whole at 100 yds, @200 group was .5 in but you have to let the barrels cool on the vangards. Tried many powders,. 71.2 gr of 7828 . I had to jump the bullet almost to the lands, so more powder was necessary...
