I have been looking at the sporting goods stores near me online but haven't had the chance to go in person yet. Probably gonna stop by the pawn shops first to see if I can find a used action cheap first. Found a model 10 308 that was used for $250 today but it was sold before I got there.

I really want to build a striker pistol to hunt with. That will be my next savage build (after this 6.5) if I can figure out where to get the stock for it.

I thought about that last night. I was looking at it in a best case I would already have a detachable mag fed heavy barrel threaded 308. If it shot good, it would save me a couple hundred dollars and wait time on a new barrel. Change out the stock and shoot till my 6.5 barrel was delivered...

I'm looking at the 10fcp-sr 24" in 308 rite now. Seems like a good place to start and converting to 6.5 creedmoor will be easy, plus I can get a 308 match barrel for it if the stock one doesn't shoot good. Changing the stock will be the first thing I do along with the base.

Kicking around the idea of building a rifle in 6.5 creedmoor or 308. It will be for deer hunting out to 700 yards and punching targets out to 1000. I want to use a savage action so I can do most of the build myself. I just don't know what model to use! Model 10, axis XP as a doner action, model...

Ok. Thank you verry much for that information. Is it better to pillar bed a stock or glass bed it? I know the different between the two but which on is better?

Ok. I would rather have too much gun than not enough any day of the week. What would the max range of a 7 mm rem mag be shooting 168 grn berger hybrids?

Other than the ultra mags and and specialty rounds what is the difference between a 7 mm at 1000 yards and a 300 wm?

I have noticed alot more people using .30 cal or bigger for 1000 yard hunting and target shooting. Why is that when th .284 caliber has a higher bc?

I plan on starting reloading soon for the 7mm. The wsm was a gift from my grandfather before he died so it will stay factory as long as i have it. Where can i find instructions on bedding a stock? I know how to free float th barrel but no clue on how to bed it.

Thats kinda where i am. I know i dont need a 300 rum but i dont want to have any worry about having enough gun if the buck of a lifetime steps out at 1000 yards. I have access to everything i need to reload for my 7 mag exept bullets and powder.

Good. I was thinking of getting the action trued and adding a stock. What barrel would you suggest? Or would a 300 rum be better to start with. Would the 7mm rem mag have enough energy at say 1000 yards for deer and hogs with a 168 grain berger hybrid?
