    Standard bases vs. Picatinny rail

Hello, I'm trying to make an informed decision on how to mount a new scope to my hunting rifle. I can use standard bases or a picatinny rail. Can anyone explain the benefits of using one option over another? I was hoping the members could give me a little information and advice here. Thanks,

Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP MRAD - First impressions

I've beeb looking at these scopes for several months, hoping they would be half as good as their reviews. Today I received the 4-16x50 FFP, and I'm blown away. Keep in mind, I haven't mounted it or fired a round yet, but my initial impression is that this is an amazing value. The tube and...

    Long Range Shooting Instructor

TLK: Thanks for the message. I'm not new to shooting, only new to long-range shooting. Until a few weekends ago, the furthest I had ever shot was inside 100 - 150 yards. And I did buy a gun to use in developing medium, long-range shooting techniques. It's a Tikka T3 Varmint, which has a...

Richard, Thanks for the email. I see you're in Allen. Where do you practice? I'm definitely committed to becoming better, and I know it's a long road. I'm willing to put in the time to get better. And congratulations to your son - that's awesome.

    Long Range Shooting Instructor

I'm new to long-range shooting, but after shooting rounds this past week to 500 yards, I'm hooked. I'm interested in learning to shoot out to 1000 yards. I know I'm a ways away from being able to do that, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend an instructor near the DFW area? I've seen...

www.topgunshootingclub.com website is up! 500 yard range north of Dallas, TX is open!

Re: www.topgunshootingclub.com website is up! 500 yard range north of Dallas, TX is o The owner's name is Terry, and he's very accommodating. I've only been out there once, but it's going to be a nice facility. The only drawback is the shooting table. All of the tables are on blocks, on top...

    Need some basic cleaning advice.

There's a pretty good article on the home page that speaks to Bore Cleaning. Bore Cleaning Basics I'd start there. I had the same question a few weeks ago, and I stumbled onto that article. Try that. Also, it recommends Butch's Bore Shine as one of the cleaners; I have been using it...

    Long-Range Hunting

Re: Ethics of Long-Range Hunting I am never hunting deer with a .223 - at any range. I have only ever used a 30-06 or a .270. I am not asking about shooting a deer at any range with a .223. My point was only that I shot a gun with what I would say is manageable accuracy at 500 yards. I...

Reason to have a matched scope (MIL MIL / MOA MOA)?

I've seen that program, and I'm glad to hear it's a good product. You also answered my question about its compatibility with Mac OS. I run Snow Leopard also. Also, a stupid question, but what is IPHY? You reference it in conjunction with US Optics. As I said, I'm new to this hobby...

    rifle selection opinions wanted

I bought the Tikka T3 Hunter .270 this season, and I really like it. It seems like the best value out there in terms of what you get for your money. I don't think you'll go wrong picking that gun. No additional work from a gunsmith. Really a great gun.
