    7mm/08

H414 is the same powder as Winchester 760. The reloading data is exactly the same for both powders. Hodgen was getting the powder from Winchester and renamed it H414. Hodgen bought Winchester powders and discounted H414.

6.5 prc enough gun for elk

I have been shooting a 6.5-06 for many years now and it is comparable to the 6.5 PRC. I few years ago I took a very large cow elk at 459 yards with a 130 grain Nosler Accubond. The elk didn't know I was anywhere in the country and I was able to take my time on a prone shot. The Accubond went...

    270 Win, which bullet weight?

I think you will be fine with the 140 BT's. I have been loading and shooting 140 Hornady BTSP's for over 20 years for 3 different 270 rifles. I have lost count of the animals that have been taken between the 3 rifles. We have taken several oryx, cow and bull elk, mule deer, pronghorn antelope...

    Rifle/cartridge choice for daughter

Another vote for the 7-08. My daughter has taken a really large 4x5 mule deer and 2 cow elk. One shot each and down right where they stood. I loaned the rifle to a friend for his daughter for 2 elk hunts and 2 more elk down right there. These were all with standard 139 Hornady BTSP's. You are...

Talk to me about 8mm cartridges and bullets

I have two 8-06 Ackley Improved and a 8mm REM. Mag. I shoot 200 grain Speer bullets at 2800 fps between 1/2 and 3/4 at 100. My wife has taken 8 elk and 2 oryx with 1 shot each. All were DRT. I have taken numerous elk and oryx with the 8mag with 220 gr. Hornady bullets at 3025 fps. It shoots...

    Looking for rifle brand recommendations

I would look at the Howa’s and Weatherby Vanguard. Howa makes the Vanguard for Weatherby. I have a Vanguard in 257 Weatherby that shoot 1/2” with factory Weatherby ammo. I have a Howa Carbon Stalker on order. It only weighs 6 pounds 2 oz. and is threaded.

    243 powder

I worked up a load with Reloader 26, 100 grain Hornady BTSP. I have a 22” Hart barrel. I am a grain below max from what Alliant data recommends and the load is chronographed at 3133 and shoots just over .5” at 100. I took an antelope this past season and the temperature was in the high 90’s and...

Midsouth Shooters Midsouth Shooters has Hornady 123 grain FMJ’s in the 250 count for $66.50, about 27 cents each.

CFE123 or Varget, which one is more accurate for the 7mm-08?

I get 2850 with a max load of H414 with 139 Hornady BTSP in a 22” barrel. No pressure signs.

Your favorite cartridge based off .30-06?

6.5-06, 270, 280 REM., 8mm-06 Ackley Improved. I love them all. I have been using the 6.5-06 the most recently because it kills very well with light recoil. My last kill was a cow elk at 459 yards. Complete pass through and DRT. The 8-06 Ackley is a hammer. 200 grain Speer Hot Core at 2800 fps...

    Hunting With Sierra Match King

My brother shoots the 168 MK in a 7mm mag. He has taken 2 bull elk, several mule deer and a pronghorn. All have been 1 shot kills and dead right there. All were shot behind the shoulder and destroyed the vitals.

    Any (7mm-08 / H414 [or 760] / 139SST) 1st hand experience?

I have been loading for 2 rifles chambered in 7-08 for 20 plus years. Both with 22" barrels, Savage model 11 and Remington 700. I have been loading H414 in both with Hornady 139 BTSP's and Federal 200 primers. 46.0 grains in the Savage and 47.0 grains in the Remington. The Savage chrono's at...
