Short, I know, but this is what Barnes requires for TSX bullets loaded in the 45-70.

Hard extraction, flattened primers, and ejector marks are certainly signs of pressure in bolt action rifles. I don't have enough experience with lever actions to know if that's true here as well. Since pressure = velocity, I rely on what my chronograph is telling me.

    7 SAUM Seating Heavies Long

This has been my experience almost exactly with the 7 SAUM and other calibers except I start from what I found to be an accuracy node. Loading longer and adding powder to get back to the same accuracy node didn't seem to be a benefit. I will admit that loading longer and reaching a high node...

    winchester 1886

In case you did not fully appreciate the second post above. Load date you read on line will vary from very mild to way too hot for your rifle. I would not go above loads specifically indicated for 1886 style rifles. Stay away from anything that says Ruger. The load data in that second post...

    Brian’s Idaho 6x6 Bull Elk

Palisades We see three or four that big each year plus another dozen or more 5x5's and smaller. There is only one Brutus. He's still out there. My son and I each had shots but independently decided to leave him in the gene pool.

    Brian’s Idaho 6x6 Bull Elk

Sorry, I overreacted to the irony. Idaho is still a great place to hunt. I agree they tend to get pushed onto private land where the hunting pressure is less or into the deep forest during hunting season. That herd does have at least three decent bulls in the back. Unusual for this time of...

    Brian’s Idaho 6x6 Bull Elk

I and those of us who hunt Idaho know that's not true. This is three weeks after the end of elk season. Several nice bulls haven't left this herd yet. The successful bulls leave the breeding herds to recover. You won't see this many when the season opens. They read the regs.

    Brian’s Idaho 6x6 Bull Elk

Very conservative 340. B&C deducts big time for symmetry. Using the elk ranch method, probably 400. :)

    Brian’s Idaho 6x6 Bull Elk

You are right about that. My son killed this one the year before last less than 100 yards from where Brian killed his. 300 WM. Hamer Hunter 199. Did the job. This one taped the same as Brian's. Both are excellent trophies. There are plenty of big bulls in Idaho. You need to know where...

Hammer Bullet Loads for 1886 Winchester

Is anyone loading for an original 1886 Winchester? Looking at 250 to 400 gr shock hammers for elk. Finding pressure signs is a challenge and published data is well below 2000 fps.

    QuickLoad -HAMMER BULLETS?

Interesting. I am not a doubter but will have to work with the new start pressure for a while to see what it does. Thank you for sharing that. I remember reading it but did not focus on the start pressure implications for QL.

    QuickLoad -HAMMER BULLETS?

I am using QuickLOAD. 1500 is closer to what is recommended for solid soft brass. Big difference. Using 6525 gets me close to predicted velocities.

    QuickLoad -HAMMER BULLETS?

What might that be? I have been using 6525, the start pressure for copper bullets. Is that not right? Actually, you need to enter start pressure even for those already in the database.
