    Kennetrek, Schnees, Crispi boots

I’ve used the Kenetrek Desert Guides and they’re terrific. Breathe well and hold up to hard going. Only downside, they’re a bit heavy. My other preferred boot that weighs much less is the Salomon 4G...super comfortable and zero break in.

    Beanland vs McWhorter Rifles

I'm about 90% through a build with Jon on a 6.5 SAUM sheep rifle. I have had other custom rifles built but none of the smiths were as good about responding quickly to questions. On this build there was a challenge getting three rounds to fit in the BDL mag well. Jon collaborated with the...

    Lone peak arms titanium actions

Perhaps a bit later...but You can see their new handle on Proof Research's recent model rifle that they call the "Glacier Ti". You can also see the same design on Bighorn bolts.

    Lone peak arms titanium actions

Be aware that Lone Peak recently made a significant design change to their bolts (without telling most customers) and are now using two piece bolts instead of the one piece solid steel pictured and described on their website. I found this out only after purchasing one of their actions and...

Sub 6 pound 1000 yard rifle?

Beg to differ sir: titanium short action (19oz) in 6.5 SAUM, proof sendero light barrel , manners carbon stock = 5 lbs 14 oz, (w/o scope)...shoots well inside 8" at 1000 yds with more downrange ft lbs of energy that a 300 Win mag.

    6.5 x 284 vs. 6.5 SAUM

Congratulations! I was in the exact same position and chose the 6.5 SAUM as well...with the added caveat that I wanted a short action. My logic went something like this. I do not reload because I just cannot spend the time, if I want to squeeze in everything else that matters to me. In...

    Scope Recommendations

OP, you face a challenge finding what you're after in a LIGHT weight scope. Good suggestion on Swaro and Leupold as a start. Once you go up to 30 oz. ther's a whole new world of options. I have heard many good things about March as well but no personal experience with them. I have a Swaro Z5...

    Dream sheep gun

Having my "dream" sheep rifle built right now by Jon Beanland...terrific to work with. Components are: short action Lone Peak Razor Ti, 24" Proof Sendero light, Manners carbon stock (long wait), Trigger Tech Diamond, Sunny Hill machined alum. bottom metal, Hawkins rings, Swaro Z6i 5-30x50 w/...

Free Range Hunts Vs. High Fence

Good debate. Ultimately, this country is not what it was long ago. We have been building fences and roads for over 200 years...for all sorts of reasons. Sure, I'd rather hunt when the country was as it was back then...but that's not possible. The country is vastly different, more developed...

    Ultimate Sheep Rifle Build

Yes, it's a $100 option from Lone Peak. I just ordered one two weeks ago. It's probably not necessary on the body of the action because their machining and finish work make it pretty smooth from the outset. But, after the Pierce experience, I'm not taking any chances. The bolt is nitrided as std.

    Ultimate Sheep Rifle Build

You guys have some great taste. Some of the calibers are bit heavy but to each his own. Sheep are not hard to kill...and bears don't like lead in their faces even if it's only 140 grains per dose. I've killed sheep with 270's and my own .257 WBY. However, my favorite caliber for sheep is...

    Your most accurate rifle....

At 100 yds it would be my Anschutz 1727F. Even though its a rimfire, the first 3-shot group (before barrel break in) was one little-bitty hole. Having a 6.5 SST built now that I hope will do the same...
