Hey guys,
I've been able to take a few decent mule deer in Eastern Montana over the years and this year I get to try my luck in Western Montana with a special draw tag.
My Eastern Montana strategy has been to walk into places using paths that others usually don't tread and avoid the ridge...
My POI changes too much when I attach a bipod (338RUM), compared to prone off my pack. I'm going to try shooting off sticks and see if the POI is similar.
My Mother was an accomplished hunter and also a stone mason. She said in every crowd there would be a guy that couldn't handle a woman doing things well.
I was recently practicing at an archery range trying to tighten up my broad head accuracy. There was a teenage girl there shooting really...
Thank you everyone! I really appreciate the thought, time, links and advice you all have shared.
I'll watch the videos that Wiscgunner provided and make sure that my fundamentals are on track. About 15 yrs ago I read "the ultimate sniper" and I know much of that info has been forgotten and...
I'm experiencing POI shifts with a 338 RUM going from bench rest, to bi-pod, to shooting off my pack. I believe the main cause is recoil effecting POI before the bullet exits. My theory is that shooting off my pack allows the rifle to kick straight back, but on a bi-pod it "rocks" back allowing...
No offense taken! The barrel isn't touching anything, forearm is on my palm, fingers slightly holding, and my arm is just being steadied by the pack, both elbows are on the ground.
I believe the effect is from the recoil of the gun before the bullet has left the barrel.
What is the highest recoil rifle you have and its weight? My .338 RUM is generating almost twice the recoil of a 9lb 300 win mag. (250gr, 3,000fps) I don't experience a major POI change on smaller rifles, but this one did it with the factory synthetic stock and now with a piller -glass bedded...
I don't think the change is from reduced velocity. I think its how the rifle recoils.
It may be kicking straight back off a bag, but off the bipod it may be rocking back and dropping the butt which raises the muzzle?
I'm not really sure, but I've shot low recoil rifles and it didn't do...
