Replacement for Retumbo - 28 Nosler

IMR 8133 works well and if you need brass I have 100 new pieces of Nosler brass that I don't need. I'm switching to the 33 Nosler.

My 28 likes H-1000 with 168 gr. LRX's.

Lots of great recommendations in this thread...all good choices. Here's a couple more that I did not see mentioned. Ramshot Magnum or their new LRT. I am very happy with Magnum in my 300WM and am about to try LRT in my 338LM.

A lot of great choices out there.
H1000 is great, but expect to lose some velocity, but not enough for concern.
8133 is OK, but the E.S's can be erratic, and it's a little "dirty", I sometimes use it in my .375 CheyTac.
N565 has had excellent results if you can find it, N570 as well. D.O.D bought up a lot of this for their 300 PRC push.... So this tells you it's good stuff. I use it exclusively for my 30 Sherman Magnum projects.
7828 is a good stand by, but as stated before- temp sensitive.
RE-26 very good, but not above 80-85 degrees F, and if you can find it.
With this overbore case, you want to keep it as full as possible.

I appreciate the advice. I was originally having an issue finding H1000 which is why I was planning to use Retumbo. That was a few months back. So now that I can get H1000 I will probably start there.

Has anyone tried H50BMG in the 28N? That powder is never out of stock.

I use H50BMG with great success, here in Australia its call 2218 and its not discontinued. H870 is another equivalent. It's accurate and consistent shooting 180 grain eld-m's at 3050 FPS with ease burning 90gr

I tried RL33, H1000, Magnum, IMR4831, and settled on IMR7828. Had a lot less slap on the recoil more of a handle-able push.

If any of guys are in western Montana and wanting some H1000, I have a couple 8 pounders and about 1/2 dozen 1 pounders I could sell. When it finally became available several years ago....I bought a BUNCH. I would sell or would love to trade for some N570
PM me

Another vote for imr7828 I use it a couple different guns and it's always been really consistent lot to lot for me and I have never had issues with temp sensitivity like others have.

i am going to start working up loads for my custom 28 Nosler and was planning on using Retumbo. Since there appears to be a Retumbo shortage, what would you guys recommend as a replacement powder. Here's some info about my gun / load:

Rem 700 with a 26" Benchmark 1-8.5
KRG Stock with 300 RUM Mags
Bertram Brass
175 ELDX

I will be Elk hunting at 4000 - 7000 ft

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Not good, I shoot the 26 Nosler and the 7mm STW and have tried N570, H1000 and about 15 other powders and have found only Retumbo provides the most stable and higher velocities along with accuracy for the 142 gr and 168 gr ABLR's I use. Contact me on the side [email protected], if you're in the Denver area I may have a source for Retumbo for you.
