    Savage 111FCNS 30-06 Accuracy

I took the rifle shooting last weekend. After breaking in the barrel, I started to work on grouping and accuracy. At 200 yds in a full value left to right cross wind using Hornady Superformance 165gr SSTs, I was getting right around 1-MOA accuracy. The best 3-shot group was measured at 0.51”...

Re: Zeiss 4.5-14x44mm rapid z 800 Is the scope still for sale? If so, what is your asking price?

    burris elimanator??!

My buddie just bought this scope and mounted it on his .308 POF. We've only begun to test it but things look promising out to 300 yards. Only complaint so far is that is seems unusually easy to get glare in the scope.

    FFP VS SFP for Hunting

IMHO...if your type of hunting requires you to take a quick shot at a variety of known distances, then you can benefit from the FFP with some sort of milling reticle. But if you have time to range your target and dope your scope, then I don't seed the need for FFP. I must admit that I prefer a...

    Going Scope Crazy!!! ....err

For a good, accurate, and effective scope that works well at close distances and longer ranges, I recommend the Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x50 with a simple reticle. It's one of the most affordable scopes out there. I prefer it to my Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 4.5-14x50 and it cost half as much.

Question about building on a Interarms Mark X action

Have you had any success with your build? I'm also considering using my Mark X as a custom build project but don't know where to start. I'm going to keep it in 30-06 and will probably start with the barrel. Unfortunately, I don't know of a good armorer in my local area so any work will have...

Thanks for the info on AZ Unit 10. I'll be heading there in a couple weeks for my first scouting trip. When you mention looking into the northwest, are you referring to the cliffs? Would you know what the deer populations are like where you recommended. Thanks again for the good info. It...

Elk Hunting For The Layman - Part 1

I have been hunting elk for just a couple years now, as I've recently moved to the southwest and most of my hunting experience has been northeast deer. One question I could never find an answer to was how much bullet energy is needed to bring down an elk with a well placed shot. This has been...

    Best rifel manufacturer for accuracy

I feel your pain. I just sold my Browning X-Bolt and bought a Savage 111. Actually made money on the deal and I now have a more accurate rifle. In all fairness to the rifle though, it shot well for me. I once shot a 1.5 inch group at 500 yards using factory Hornady 180gr SSts. Overall I was...

    Savage 111FCNS 30-06 Accuracy

I just bought a Savage 111FCNS 30-06 and mounted a Leupold Mark 4 LRT 3.5-14x50 scope on it using Warne Maxima rings and base. How far out can I reasonably expect to be able to shoot sub-MOA groups once I find the best matched cartridge set up? I'm hoping for at least 500 yards, preferably...

    breaking in a barrel

Here is a good article (IMO) on breaking in a barrel: Barrel Break-in If you are undecided on whether or not it will benefit you, then go ahead and follow a break-in procedure. It sure won't hurt. I break in every new rifle I purchase. I don't worry about used rifles as much but it...

AZ Unit 10 Early Cow & Deer

I got drawn for Unit 10’s early cow hunt this year. I'm also putting in to hunt deer in the same area, which is the following week. I'm looking for recommendations on where to start scouting. My research is leading me toward the southeast corner, hunting Kaibab north of Williams. Right now...

    New Member in Yuma, AZ

Hi everyone. I've been big game hunting most of my life, primarily in Pennsylvania and Maryland. As a 24 year veteran of the Marine Corps, and still serving, I spend a lot of time around firearms. I’ve joined this site to get tips and advice on long range shooting/hunting. My current rifle of...
