What is the most overbore cartridge YOU HAVE USED?

Just now getting into this thread.... my most over-bore was a 22 Cheetah Mk II, built on a Browning B78 w/26" bbl. My 264 Win Mag is next in line.

    264 WIN MAG

I've hunted with my pre-64 Win 70, 264 Mag, 26" bbl, since 1975 using 60 gr IMR4831 under 140 gr Sierra SPBTs. Every hit was a pass-thru, no matter what range, on muleys, white-tails, antelope, coyotes, and all were DRT. I'm moving to Nosler 140 Accubonds but am still working up the load.

    Free Range West Texas Aoudad

Awesome!! Mix the Aoudad 50/50 with some fresh Javelina for a ride on the "wild side" of sausage! 😁

IMR 4831 Go to powder for what?

Catching up to this decades old post, I have a lot of IMR4831 and have used it in 243, 25-06, 264 Mag, 270 Win, 7 Rem Mag, and 300 Win Mag. It tends to work better with heavier bullets although my 270 and 130 Partitions work best with 59 gr.

    How many use “Old” Scopes?

Awesome post, I have 4 active circa early 1960 B&Ls on rifles I use all the time. Two of my Balvar 2.5-8x's are mounted on a 243 and 30-06. I have a B&L 6x dot on a 223. Amazing how the bullet hits where the dot is out to about 300 yds, no waste of time targeting. And I just put the fourth old...

    7x61 S&H wildcat?

Great thread on 7x61! I own an original S&L Mauser actioned 7x61 that was my dad's elk and muley rifle from the late 1950's. I unfortunately inherited it in 1987 and have played with it since then. I recently refreshed it by retiring the original B&L adjustable base and B&L 8X fixed scope and...

    many cartridges with 1 powder

My go to is IMR 4831, I use it in 243, 25-06, 264 mag, 270, 7x61, 7 mag, 30-06, and 300 mag. Maybe I forgot one or two others?

    Bullet for mule deer hunt

Adding my $0.02... I have taken "many" mulies in West Texas, New Mex, and Co, with my 270 130 gr and 264 Win Mag 140 gr partition, at almost any range you can imagine, and none took more than one shot. Have confidence in your rifle, load and how it handles. It's not what you hit them with, it's...

    hunting rifle accuracy

copy the close range... only 10 yd shot I ever had was in a snow storm in the Davis Mountains, muley buck stood up in front of me, I shot from the hip, 270 at 10 yds sure tore up a lotta meat....

    hunting rifle accuracy

3/4" 3 shot group, cold barrel, set 2" high at 100 yds. Doesn't matter if it's my 264 Win Mag, 243, 22-250, 300 Mag, 338, etc..., keep them all the same so I don't have to think twice to take the shot. 95% of the time the shot will be off-hand or maybe a quick lean against a tree. You get only...

Is the 243 the best whitetail deer cartridge?

Tossing my $0.02 into the 387 previous responses... I love my 243. Shot my first deer at 10 yrs old with a custom 243 Mauser my dad built for my skinny frame, using his 100 gr Hornady load. It was a nice 10 pt west texas muley at about 125 yards and DRT. His Mauser 243 took many, many, white...

Loading big calibers for smaller game

A couple of times I had loaned my deer rifles to family for hunts and I was left with my elk rifle, 300 H&H mag, 26" bbl and 200 gr Partitions, ~2900 FPS, for whitetails. A 40 yd shot was in 'n out with almost no meat loss. A 300 yd shoulder shot was also in 'n out with almost no meat loss. I...

    6.5 140 Grain Nosler Partitions

Have used the 140 partitions in my 264 Win Mag for decades, 26" bbl, 3000 fps, couldn't ask for better results, stays together better at short ranges but have moved to Accubonds. But both still tend to punch through at almost any range. Like the Accubonds at over 400 yds, but would use...

    What 22cal would you build?

My fun was 22 Cheetah Mk-II, or 22/243 w/35 deg shoulder. Built on a Browning 78, 22-250 rechambered so it was factory twist. Put a 12x Leupold on it, loaded 60 gr Nosler Solid Base, 46.0gr H414 for 3756 fps gave groups of 3/8". Wow this was a fun rifle, light, handy and accurate.
