I hesitated on a Rem. Model 7 SS 243 w/ HS precision stock for <$750 because I was in a bind. Should have made it happen and fix the bind later. Man it was a sweet little rifle. Lots of others as well, but that's the one that jumps out at me today.

I have a rem 700 with a 16.5" barrel that shoots 150 gr. Hornady whitetails 1/2" groups. Good enough for me to not care to reload for that gun.

I have done the same thing. We were running late one morning hunting. Had stayed up way too late the night before. grabbed three rounds and stuffed them in the magazine and headed out. Killed a really nice axis that morning with the shot. surprisingly, the point of impact was close to dead on...

Hornady American Whitetails shoot .5" groups in my 700. They perform on deer when the get there. since your inside 300 yards, it's an easy choice for me.
