My rangefinder doesn't agree with other apps (JBM, Zeiss, etc.) in the amount of clicks needed at say 800 yds.
I input identical data for atmospheres, and ballistics but all of the other apps recommend 84-85 clicks correction but the range finder only recommends 79. The Leica app says 171...
I have a Leica 2800.com. I take the load I worked up to the range and sight in my rifle for say 200 yds. I then take the environmentals from the range day and make a custom curve with my chosen bullet.
My question is do I use the environmentals from the range or from where and when I'm going...
You are helping and I particularly like your insight on Quickload. Your last statement is bang on. I've been reloading for 30 years and have been using Quickload for the last five or so. It has always tracked very well for a variety of calibers and rifles until this one.
There's a Facebook group called Quickload OBT. They calculate weighting factor as I described above. I don't have the mathematical background to debate this but there are engineering types on there that do.
You are right that if the weighting factor is changed to 0.55 pressure increases...
A quick search on the web will give you this formula for calculating the weighting factor:
Cross Sectional Bore Area / Case Capacity of a Case fired in the Rifle * 500
Others that know a lot more than me came up with the formula.
0.045756/58 * 500 = 0.394448
I weighed the water capacity of 10 fired cases. They averaged 58.07 grains. The weighting factor works out to be 0.39.
Try those inputs and see what you get?
It looks like there is a big discrepancy in load data with this cartridge.
For instance, Nosler list a 40gr charge as max with IMR 4895 achieving 3511 fps.
Hodgdon list a max of 44.6gr and 3735 fps with the same powder!
This is my second Cooper. The first one (a 7mm-08) I purchased new in 2014. I couldn't get it to shoot and it has been back to Cooper more times than I can count. I finally sent it to a Gunsmith on my dime after it refused to eject fired rounds. He said the ejector was bent and looked as though...
Thanks for all the replies guys. It looks like it's just a matter of the barrel and not the small tenon so I guess I'll see about having it rebarreled.
