    308 difficulty

Yep, sounds familiar. I bought a body die that doesn't touch the neck to resize the brass. Now when they get snug I run them through the body die and everything is happy again.

need a good gunsmithing lathe????? What brand

3SIXBITS, I agree. I have found that there are usually a couple of ways to approach the same problem. I use an old Logan that my machinist Grandfather bought new. Since it never saw any production shop work, wasn't allowed to chatter, etc., the ways are clean enough do a halfway decent job...

need a good gunsmithing lathe????? What brand

If you compare Harbor Freight and Grizzly I think you will find that Grizzly sells the same Chinese junk as Harbor Freight at a higher price. What I have learned is that the Chinese tools use green iron castings that will shift over time. The Taiwanese (JET) used solution aged and stress...

    .308 HDY A-MAX 178 Data?

You sound like you are marching down the same path I've been down. I tried the 168 SMK. Great at 100, but overstablized in my 1 in 10 twist barrel past 600 yards. I went to the 190 SMK and found it is real happy to past 1000 yards, but I can't get it to expand at .308 velocities, so it is out...

    .308 190 SMK Reloading Data

I had to get into my old notebooks. I keep all my load development targets in the book and make notes about the conditions , etc, right on the target. I found that I did try the IMR-4064 and the rifle didn't like my loads. Now for the funny part - I checked a worksheet I had put together for...

    .308 190 SMK Reloading Data

I'll have to try 4064. I have a Savage 10FP that loves the 190 SMK with 41gr of Varget - five shots, one ragged hole at 100 yards - every time.

    Marlim or Winchester?

Well, welcome to the forum. I enjoyed your story. One reason so many took offense at your joke could be that so many forums have been destroyed by people who just came to cause trouble. Hard to weed those folks out. Hope you find this a good place to hang out.

    what gun is this?

I'm also no Weatherby expert, but I can say that this does appear to be either a commercial FN mauser or a licensed copy. My Dad tells me that Roy Mauser started with FN Mauser actions before designing and building his own. I suspect you have an early rifle. If you could post more pics of the...

    H380 powder for 22-250 and 7mm08

I mostly have to agree with Jim. Mostly, because I love H380 in my .22-250 and .308 - but only when in cool weather. I live in AZ. The summers here can be a "bit warm". I will shoot H380 in the winter months, but this powder gets VERY hot when the weather warms up. Maybe not a problem where...

180 grain Accubond loads for a .308 win

I've had the best luck with this bullet over Varget in my Savage in .308. I've loaded from 42 grains to 44 grains. I found that 44 was really pushing the pressure limits in my 26" barrel, and dropped back to 43 grains. I have not found much published on loads for this bullet. I determine max...

Super Sniper Scope....as good as they advertise

I hesitantly purchased one several years ago at the advice of a friend. I love it. I have tested the hell out of it, and it always repeats and performed flawlessly. I have since ordered a second one. This second scope is from the first batch that SWFA had built after the bought the rights...

First Medium Range Gun: 308 Win, or 300 WSM

Consider a Savage. You won't find a more accurate factory rifle. My first three five-shot groups all measured 0.5" out of my 10FP (shooting handloads).

    exploding targets

Ok, now you've awakened the little boy in me. My stepson (former Marine) gave me a couple of bottles of Tannerite as an x-mas gift a couple of years ago. I should not have been surprised by the stuff, given that he is a Marine and all, but I had seen "exploding" targets before and was not...

Whats everyone's fav. .308 LR load??

Re: Whats everyone\'s fav. .308 LR load?? What is interesting is that I tried the IMR4064load that worked for Sandman and had dismal performance from my Savage at all the COALs I tried. It's nice to know that that load was a logical choice to try, but I am always amused when a load that is...

Whats everyone's fav. .308 LR load??

Re: Whats everyone\'s fav. .308 LR load?? For target shooting - 190gr SMK's pushed by 41gr of Varget, 0.003" off the lands For hunting - 180gr Accubonds with 43gr of Varget - COAL 2.873" (0.003 off the lands with this round) Also successful - 178gr Amax with 44 gr of Varget, 0.010" off the...
