To flute or not to flute?

The great Gale McMillan once said: it would shoot if fluted at the right point in the manufacturing process. I always felt that they shoot in spite of being fluted but as long as shooters will pay a barrel maker $1.50 a minute to flute one you will see them on the line. Mind you, it was...

Wax-in your blueing, along with your wood. Weather Protection.

Yes, ceramic coating will do fine, but ordinary car body wax like Turtle hard shell wax works perfectly and in glass bedding as a release agent too. Apply 2 or 3 coats polishing every coat. Can be removed just like ordinary car wax. Just don't do it on the stock, there are better permanent...

    Hunting in Slovakia

Well, asking in the pub may be good idea in US, Australia, or Canada, in sparsely populated areas where the pub is the only social place for miles, here in Oz we call it Woop Woop, but I've heard someone using a far more descriptive expression for such place "a place where the devil says...

    7mm bullets

1000 yd capable load is easy to do, but are you capable of hitting a deer at this distance, do you understand the factors involved? A 7mm Mauser will never out do a 7mm-08 for accuracy, oh really?

Resizing marks on .270 Win cases

I hope that the 5 photographed Starline cases are all that you have damaged. If this is the case (pun not intended) they can be polished with no ill effect. Take only the burr with sandpaper (400-600) glued to a Paddlepop Stick, do not try to sand off rest of the scratch. The "sanding" should...

Resizing marks on .270 Win cases

I presume that the die is a new one. On the photo one can see a heavy scratch ending with a raised edge, like if you raised a burr witch a scraper. This is not a dirty die, (dirty die scratch would look like made with a sand paper) this is poorly made die and I would send it to the manufacturer...

Followup for Kaboom Today by OP gingerman/DoneNout

Lack of facilities and time could be a problem indeed, I do not think a high polish or etching would be necessary, just nice fine scratch marks going in one direction could do. A smear of any ammonia base copper cleaning solvent would reveal a crack.

Followup for Kaboom Today by OP gingerman/DoneNout

So, you bought same second hand cases, no info of the number firings nor how stiff were the loadings. 20% of the acquired cases had expanded primer pocket. In my mind the expansion of the primer pocket is an obvious sign of excessive pressure. This bit is incoherent and difficult to...
