Really like both of these calibers. Looking forward to building the 7mm Texan, a project that JE Custom was working on before he passed.
This would be the 7 RUM plus some extra .. AI style with JE enhancements.
When the testing begins I'll run this beside the STW and RUM for comparisons
understood .. still it would be good info.. we used DB meters at different locations, other than that it was, hey .. you sit here and let me know the difference. As for recoil I built to "Recoil Master 3000", as seen on TV, to measure that info.
Would you have a way to measure port pressure at each port? The tuning was used to achieve a balance with in the brake. To distribute the pressure equally to each port, in that way the effectiveness goes up without loosing the effort to the first port as most brakes do.
JE and I did extensive tests with port angles on the Assassin muzzle break. Found a sweet spot where the sound to the shooter was not increased by the use of the muzzle break and to the side was reduced compared to a straight port brake design. In slow motion video watching port deflection it...
Had the chance to go over to JE's shop and help organize things for the family .. took some pictures
The main work area
Numerous medals he had won at past matches
His 32 Coupe that he had built years ago .. 572 BB
That is the factory stock .. with black mesquite tips .. I've had really good luck with the later year birch stocks on the 788's having tons of figure.. I do a one pass red mahogany stain and top it with tung oil. Example picture of pre 78 stocks against later 79+ stock (in back). This stock was...
I've built quite a few different things on the 788 .. like those little actions. Using the "long" action, .308 will work out well. The original 22-250 in a 788 was considered a "short" action using a shorter bolt and magazine.
I have had really good performance from the Wilson Barrels provided...
It is important to make it comfortable .. i'm in at 6' 4" .. so the table is a bit high for others. Also .. notice on front edge, electrical outlets. good access to cords don't drape over your work surface.
Yes .. the folgers cans make great holders for brass in any stage .. They stack nicely too ..
The AC is needed in south texas. keeps the area cool and dry(er).
This is what I ended up building on a 11 foot wall in the "Loading Shed" ..
The bench is a solid core door for the top. These can be had for less that $50 at local stores and provide a very flat surface .. not good for hitting on, but very thick and stable.
Then add a back shelf unit with...
I was fortunate to build a 280 AI with JE on a Remington Model 30 action .. labeled it as Rem 280 Imp 40 Deg, as was on the Manson Reamer. It's my go to for just about anything.
