    Newbie pronghorn hunter

Lots of good advice here. I've only hunted NE New Mexico pronghorns once and that was out of Springer. Caught a good one about 300 yds out with a .243 BLR carbine, but thinking beforehand that I wished I had brought my .264 Win Mag so I would have enough gun. Didn't need the bigger gun as...

    Antelope bullet

.243 is a great caliber for pronghorns. Very flat shooting, but 400 yds will have a lot of drop and drift just about whatever your BC bullet choice. Try to stay within 300 to 350 yds if you can. You won't get much meat damage, if any, with good shot placement and pronghorns are not hard to kill.

    Thoughts on Lever Action

A good scope will last beyond your lifetime and will allow for a calibrated holdover which an open sight won't.

    Thoughts on Lever Action

I love lever actions and own several: .243 BLR carbine shoots .75" groups; Winchester '94 (top eject prevents scope) not a great shooter; Marlin 336 JM stainless carbine 30-30 shoots 1 Moa, open sights; Marlin JM 336 .35 Rem Marauder carbine (1961) shoots 1 Moa with more knock-down than 30-30...

    Thoughts on Lever Action

I love lever actions and have several: 243 BLR carbine shoots .75" groups; Winchester '94 - not a great shooter and doesn't side eject so no scope; Marlin 336 30-30 stainless carbine open sights; Marlin 336 35 Rem Maurader (1961)

    Medium range optic

Take a look at the March 3x24x42 in the F series. It has a front focal plane Christmas tree type reticle,FML-T1, and weighs 21.5 oz. Nice Glass! if that doesn't tick all your boxes, I don't know what would.

Spotting Scope Recommendations For Hunting & Shooting?

In bad conditions, you're not going to see squat no matter how good your scope is at long range. I happen to love my Meopta cuz it has the FOV and clarity at distance that ranks with the best at a considerably lower price. Not sure I'd want to lug it up to the top of a mountain though.

Bigger is better theory or truth?

Shot Placement Rules over bullet weight IMHO. My .243 BLR carbine was my go to for years cuz of its flat shooting drt accuracy on neck shots, even on 300+ yd pronghorns. But lately I'ver been attracted to the 265 gr Hornady ftx out of a 444P Marlin. Absolutely devastating on shoulder shot...

    Throat Erosion

I inherited a Rem. 700 .264 Win. Mag from my Dad. How do I determine how much throat erosion has occurred in this 60 yo rifle? Is there some std measurement on what's new or what's too much? Sorry to be so clueless.

Nightforce vs Huskemaw or something else in that price range??

Got to sign in with a vote for March. I use Leopold and S&B as well, but the March, at 3-25x42 ffp, is so clear, quick and compact that it is my scope of choice to carry towards targets at 300 yds and beyond.

Behind enemy lines in CA. Need to escape. Need help

I saw the handwriting on the wall while in college in Santa Barbara in the 60’s. Left my 5th generation Californian persona behind and moved to Texas in 1969. Since then we’ve been invaded by Californicators and south of the border hordes so that today our big cities may as well be the enclaves...

    Any experience with March scopes?

I thought it had been discontinued since it was introduced in 2008, but it appears to be still available. Its specs aren't nearly as good as the 8-80x56, however, which is the scope thar Mud was talking about. Opinions are like a__holes, everyone has one. I questioned yours however, since a...

    Any experience with March scopes?

This is a bogus comparison. Besides the fact that the March 10-60x52 has long been discontinued and Mud was inquiring about the March 8-80x56, which has a larger objective, you're trying to compare the brightness of an older 52mm objective at max 60x power to the ATACR with a larger objective...

    Any experience with March scopes?

Mud, at the distances which the 8-80x56 is designed for, mirage is actually your friend in order to read the wind. I don't know of any scope that eliminates mirage. In most instances, you have to dial down the mag to reduce its influence. While I haven't gotten behind the 8-80x56, I do have a...

    Any experience with March scopes?

Parker, I have the March F 3-24x42 and it's an awesome scope, but I've never heard of anyone putting it on a pistol. Your issue is not going to be with either the objective or mag range, but with eye relief. The exit pupil at high mag is only 1.75mm and eye relief is about 90mm. That's going...
