My Boys Want a Lever Action

If you want a 30-30 then the 336 marlin is a good way to go. But for better hunting calibers I’d recommend a Henry long ranger or a browning blr. You will get bolt action performance in a lever gun.

308 or 7mm-08 for mule deer?

You can’t go wrong with either caliber for mule deer. I personally favor the 7mm-08 because it is a little bit faster and flatter shooting. You have some higher b.c. Bullet options for it but I have found the 139 grain hornady superformance ammunition to do the trick on about anything.

When I have a rifle tag I shoot weekly if not multiple times a week when I am able to. And then once a month at least I try to...

    6.5-284 good for it all?

I’ve been running a 6.5-284 for 4 years and am nothing but happy with it. It is more than capable of taking any North American game or African for that matter with the exception of the largest dangerous game. My only complaint is the cost of brass and available factory ammunition is limited.
