AMEN to that. I have heard of videos of wolves taking down a pregnant cow elk just to rip out the fetus and leave the cow to rot. They kill stock for fun and pets like it is a video game. About six or seven years ago a rancher lost 50 sheep to wolves in one night in west central Montana.
I agree. I have larger calibers up to .458 Lott. I am looking a few years in the future when I will be shooting paper targets in lieu of fur. My 6.5 is accurate, and fun to shoot. It is also inexpensive to feed. Before I received numerous "man bun" retorts, you are welcome to sit behind the...
I am OK with everything except bullets, but they are not as hard to find. I try to buy 2-4 pound of powder from the same lot if possible to avoid frequent requalifing a different lot #. I went to Cabelas in Missoula two days ago. They did not have any powder of any kind. I do not shoot...
Yes. I have a jacard tenderizer which consists of a handle afixed with three rows of needles. The needles look like exacto knife blades which are protected by a spring loaded blade guard. It works well on round steak. Start with a thicker than normal steak. The process will reduce the...
I agree, I have a 458 Lott and a 45-70. The Lott stays in the safe, but the 45-70 is inexpensive to load. With a modern, strong action you can push a 405 gr. lead bullet at 2000 fps. I load lead to 1600 fps., which is plenty of fun for me.
I have had a first gen RCBS Ammomaster press for over 30 years. It is massive, strong, and seem to make good ammo if the rest of the loading process is done correctly.
Much or the Weatherby ammo was loaded with Hornady Interlocks early on. My 340 WEA liked the 250 gr. IL, but they iffy at close range due to high impact velocity. I now load the 225 gr. SST and Interbonds for a 338-06. I do miss the 200 gr. IL for my 338-06 for deer and such. Good bullets...
I have been struggling with my 338-06 hand loads to approach 2700 fps. with 225 gr. Hornady interbonds. I am using Nosler and Norma brass because of the proper head stamp. Many shooters recommend using harder brands of 30-06 brass and necking up to .338. I believe that this is the best option...
You may want to check the diameter of the die just ahead of the bushing. I had a similar issue trying to find a full length bushing die for a 338-06. I was told that the die constriction used to guide the neck into the bushing was not large enough to permit a 338 neck (.364") into the...
I can identify with your plight. I used to buy 500 primers from one lot to avoid requalifing loads. I just found a brick of cci 200 primers. I will be using these in place of Fed 210m and Win WRL for some of my loads. Also what load do you use for your 338-06?
I shoot a 1968 era rem 700, and I took my last Elk with a 175 gr. SGK. They are not as popular in this age of high bc, polymer tip, bonded bullets, but they work
Does neck tension change when you pull and replace bullets? I pulled bullets and reloaded them with a different charge weight (I goofed up on the first load) and accuracy and Es was horrible, but I like your idea. Just curious
