Case trimmer- what to buy and not to buy

My small lot trimmer is an older factory Lyman Power Case Trimmer. It does an okay job, but changing cases in the holder gets tedious, and it doesn't cut the case mouths square to the base. It's okay, but not great. I appear to be the only one here with a Gracey trimmer. I bought mine used, and...

    Stainless tumbler

I guess I'll be odd man out. I use Armor-All car wash soap in my Thumler Model B, with a touch of Lemishine. One important step for me is to dry tumble freshly sized brass in walnut to remove the sizing lube (Dillon) before my finish wet tumble.

How do I get a redding expander button out of a case

Wow. I've only stuck a couple of military 223 cases, and they came out easily. I use a lot of Hornady dies, and have had any sticking problems I could blame on the dies. I did learn long ago that the most reliable case lube seems to be Dillons spray type. I make my own version now from lanolin...

    Cannelure on bullet seating depth

The position of the unused cannelure is irrelevant in this instance.

    Weighing different powder

Different powders have different densities. H414 is a ball powder, and a given weight of it will occupy less space than and extruded (stick type) powder will. Had you loaded the ball powder first, the stick powder charge would be really light. Powder measures "measure" by volume, not weight.

    .307 winchester

I'd try beating him up over the lack of brass and the high price of ammo. Being a Winchester, it's probably worth what he's asking, as long as it's in good condition. Sadly, I scrapped a couple of hundred 307 cases a year ago after selling my rifle, and finding no market at the time for the...

    .307 winchester

307 Winchester uses 308 Winchester dies, but with a different shell holder. I believe the shell holder is the same as a 30-30. The brass is the expensive part. You can size 356 Winchester brass down, and you might be able to squish 444 Marlin brass down, but you'll probably need to trim it, and...

    bullet shaving

There's an excellent article in the latest issue of "Handloader" on case neck sizing vs bullet diameter. I generally size cast bullets to .311 for 30 cal, depending on how generously the barrels cut at the throat. I also use a .311 M die to expand the case neck, and flare the case mouth...

I guess I get no help here

This whole thread is kind of baffling. SS109s & tracers are not known for their accuracy anyway. They're plinking bullets. As far as ARs go, there are certain dues that need to be paid while developing loads, and there are no real shortcuts. We don't know what size groups you're shooting, or...

    Single shot pistol for Illinois

Once fired brass sticking (that was fired from the same rifle?)

It sounds as if your dies aren't sizing the enough in front of the belt. I had a similar problem with my 338 Win Mag. The solution was a separate body die that squeezed the case a wee bit more in front of the belt. This was several years ago & I don't remember who made that body die, but until I...

    match primers

To expand a bit on winchester 69s post, match primers are the first run of primers from a batch. They're made on machinery that was freshly calibrated, with chemicals that were freshly mixed. I do believe that all they are simply the primers from the first shift of a new batch. They are a little...

SOLD/EXPIRED FS Savage 110 heavy barrel

I do not know if it's the air gauged barrel or not. I bought the blank from a local gunsmith who couldn't remember all the particulars. It is CM.

SOLD/EXPIRED FS Savage 110 heavy barrel

He asked a couple of good questions. He asked what thread pitch the muzzle is cut for & how it was shooting for me. The answers below: It's 5/8 X 24. This thread is also used on the Remington rifles with the factory brake. Since it's a 30 cal. I didn't want to use the AR15 1/2 X 28 (I think)...
