Lots of choices in 300 wsm brass, fewer in 270 wsm. Unless you need really long bullets, I wouldn’t consider the 6.8 Western case. The 300 or 270 case will give you lots of oal flexibility in the 7 mm with that magazine length.

Has anyone worked with the 6.5 x 6.8 Western ? a little less case capacity, longer neck than the WSM. A little more than the WSSM. Just right ?

What condition is the throat of your 6.5x284 ? what rifle is the 280 chambered in ? i don’t see where a 300 fits into your hunting plans unless something is not “right” with these two

Do any of you load pistol bullets for plinking or small game in your 35s ? I like the BLR in .358 Win for bush hunting, need a grouse load for fools hen.

How much improved is the SM over basic PRC ? How much of that is increased volume, and how much is increased pressure ?

Do these Linear Comps reduce recoil, or just redirect muzzle blast forward ? Thanks

You would’ve liked it at that length if it was a 308 for bush hunting. The shorter they are, the louder that muzzle blast seems, and the less muzzle weight for aiming stability.

The Norma magnum is very interesting option, I would look at the CZ 550 / Brno 602 action to house it though. Same thoughts for the 338 Lapua. Natural fit in an action designed for the 416 Rigby. i’m also curious why no one is mentioning, or suggesting the Nosler 33 in this discussion. Great...

300 Norma fits nice in the CZ magnum action for a LR hunting rifle. The 700 action probably fits the RUM, 30 Nosler ( throated long), 300 PRC etc without a boltface diameter mod much better.

The Creedmoor case has a slightly larger shoulder diameter of .462” compared to the 250 AI which is nominally .455” Only 7 thou larger, it is less taper, with a 30 degree shoulder angle. Capacity difference is probably a wash.

OAL ? Same as 140s ? Is the ogive near the neck ? Posting a picture of the loaded round would probably satisfy my curiosity, Ha Thanks

How does the CM handle the newer 156s in SA mag length ? Lots of options open up in the LA, starting with 6.5x55 Improved, 6.5x284, 6.5x280AI. Not that there is anything wrong with a 260 Improved, but it doesn’t have as much latitude for oal once throating is established, due to it’s neck length.

Not to put to fine a point on it, but it seems like you’re looking for something that isn’t there. The CM has a slight capacity disadvantage, but handles the longer 140s better in a true SA magazine length. Factory twist is 8” . The 260Rem started out with a slower twist for 120 and 130...

Why ? Still gonna burn a hatful of powder to push 156s out at less velocity than the 140s. Given similar pressures, I don’t see how this is going to reduce throat erosion. Just curious
