How often do you clean your barrel?

Both factory Remington 1. 783 in 7mm mag shooting 168 LRAB .212" @ 100 yards 2. Remington SPS Take off Barrel 7mm STW on an old 700 action 160 gr. Nosler accubond .287 @ 100. I have shot 200 yard groups with the STW that are still well under an inch, will do the same with the 7 mag soon...

How often do you clean your barrel?

Clean after every shooting session with exception of fouling (3) before a hunt. Working on 2 new barrels right now with less than 100 each down the tube, 20 rounds at a session or less = complete clean with nitro and copper solvents. To each there own but it is almost therapeutic to me.

    Berger 140 vld

Have one from the late 90's Winchester 70 classic hunter bone stock. have near 1000 down the tube and she still shoots sub MOA. Rebarreled a wore out 700 7 mag this last fall with a take SPS barrel I picked up for $78 on gun broker, she shoots .2 @ 100 with less than 100 down range. Until...

    Berger 140 vld

They may be just the ticket on heavier framed animals, shot a little coues whitetail here in so. AZ that didn't go as planned. Back rib quartering away shot at 512yds. Lets just say that didn't really need a knife for gutting. Like I mentioned before may have been driving the pill too fast...

    Berger 140 vld

Never have shot them on game in the 7 mag, do have some experience with them in an 7 STW, going too fast in my opinion at 3300 FPS. Should work well around the 3100 mark I am told.

I have none with Retumbo, however use the Nosler #7 data with Imr 4350, shoots sub 1/2 minute at 100 for me in a new Remington 783. Good luck

    Berger Bullets, Hunter or Hunting?

1 in 9 is completely accurate, will have to look in to the groove count. I was expecting that the distance would have been in my favor more at 500+ that inside 300 yards, hence the head scratching. Regardless, I will try the heavier VLD's and re assess performance based on the heavier pills...

    Berger Bullets, Hunter or Hunting?

Mixed reviews with the 140 vld this year, 2 Mule deer at 253 and 260 through my 7 STW respectively showed decent performance without a pass through on high shoulder broadside shots. 1 coues deer at 562 with surface impact explosion, 4" diameter entrance wound on a quartering away shot in...

    Braking my STW

I have 2 STW's Remington 700 and Winchester 70 classic sporter and both have removable brakes. My 17 year old has come in to his own regarding accuracy after the brakes were installed, I highly recommend it. Get a threaded brake with a thread protecting cap and use it when and where you want...

    Severely Dented Cases….Secondary Explosion Effect?

Have seen this once before years ago (1985). Pre '64 264 Winchester Magnum with 140 grain Nosler solid base bullets, cci 250 primers and IMR 4350. The only remedy we found at the time was to switch to a slower burn rate powder, back in 1985 options were limited. We found that H870 was the...
