Building a lightweight rifle for the sole purpose of sheep. Planning on a 1:7 twist barrel in order to use a little heavier bullet.
Narrowed my choices down to either a 6.5 SAUM or 6.5x284 Norma. Leaning towards the saum personally

If you go 65284 i would stay with 130 or 142 as max weights....
If the larger prc.....maybe 150gr....but not necessarily...
Pushing a 142 faster would make it even more lethal...
The critter wont go far....

Love my 6.5 saum
Sending 147's at 3050 with H1000 from a 25" barrel.
Great lightweight LR rifle, I'd go with a 7 twist and shoot 140 monos.
Perfect sheep rifle out to 900

Either one will work great my light weight sheep gun is a creed with the 124 hammer hunters and neither one went more than 15 yards. So either of your will work fine.

6.5SAUM or 6.5SS push the 156s to 2975-3000 using H1000. And those bullets are showing to be extremely accurate.

I run the 156 at 3105 with N565 in my 6.5 SST. This round is at 2.90" coal and makes a nice compact Sheep rifle that is hard to beat!
