What's your zero?

I am thinking of going dead nuts at 100 yards. My old zero was/is 2.5" high @100 yards. Seems I always end up getting a close shot and in the heat of the moment, shoot over the animal. With a 100 yard zero, I can still hold on hair to 300 yards and still have 24ish MOA available in my turret which takes me past 1000 yards.

Yeah, I tried a high zero at a hundred and missed every stinking groundhog generally high I shot at this year. The one I missed I turned the wrong direction. Anyway, most set a zero for 200 hundred for long shots, but you should be familiar with how your scope works, turret adjustments, or mil dots if you have them.

I use a hundred yard zero and twittle the turrets, well at least that is the norm for me this coming summer. I may stretch it out to a 200 or 250 zero. We'll see.

I run a 100 yrd zero w/ my non magnum rifles, and a 300 yrd zero w/ my 30-338 Lap imp. Gives me dead hold on deer size game and larger out to 400 yrds. At 500 yrds I can hold top of back if need a quick shot. Generally beyond 400 yrds I have time to dial. If not, they walk/run.

I use a 600 yard zero!
Then hold under or over to 1200 yards.
Of course you need a system that works for you!
It all depends on your gun and what you want to do.
My system has faults but mostly it is my brain! the more I use it the better it works.

for my 300wsm I use a 200 or a half inch high depending on the load. I try to keep it so that the bullet doesn't crest much more than 2 inches higher than the POA. Gives me dead to rights out to about 275 and anything beyond that I need to take a little more time to aim

I use a 300yd zero on my .300WM and 7mmRM and a 250yd zero on my .243Win. JohnnyK.

It depends on the gun, caliber, bullet, and what I am going to use it for. Most rifles are at a 200 yd zero. Some are as close as 50 = 35 Rem lever action w/open sights.

I have tried 100,200,250 and Max point blank range and found that
they all had there strong points.

A lot depends on the type of hunting and the rifle to be used.

For short range I use 100 yrd zeros and hold high if shot is longer.

For hunting 100 to 400yrds I use different rifles and a 200yrd zero.

Beyond 400 yrds I use a milldot zeroed at 200 yrds and know the
point of impact for each dot, "OR" a scope with good turrents and
a 100yrd zero and a drop chart for any elevation needed ( it's just
easer to go up and a zero stop and/or zero the elevation and windage
turrents

The main thing is to remember which way you have each rifle set up so
you won't forget.

For turrent twisters I tape a 100 to 600yrd cheat sheet on the occular
lens of the scope and carry a 100 to 2000yrd cheat sheet to dial in the
actual range if it is over 600yrds.

With rifles using mil dot scopes I do almost the same except the cheat
sheet has the POI of each dot instead of a drop chart.

And to keep it simple the rifles with nothing on the scope I use the 100yrd
zero and hold over if needed.

It may sound complicated but I chose the rifle and the sighting system that
is best suted for the game and the conditions (Distance,cover,terrain ETC).

It is hard to have just one system that works best for all hunting situations.
