We are from Oregon and my son is dying to shoot a deer! He currently shoots a 6.5 creedmoor. He will start hunting deer here in Oregon when's he is 9 but we are looking for some ideas/states to hunt before then! Thanks in advance for the info!

So he can't hunt in Oregon now? You can take him to Texas to hunt, maybe even hunt some exotics here, just don't expect it to be cheap!
No unfortunately. He has to be 9 to hunt in the Oregon Mentored Youth Program.....

In TN he can hunt deer. Bring a tent and sleep at a campground on public land. Your biggest expense will be gas. We are overrun with deer. If you make the trip, let me know, I'll help you get where you need to be. No sweat.

Texas is a great option but mostly private land so you will have to pay for the hunt most likely. Really depends on what level of deer you are looking for. Doe hunts can be fairly cheap, cull hunts get a little pricey-er. For a "trophy" hunt the sky is the limit. If you decide on Texas I'd be glad to help you find something.

AZ is out. Have to be 10 and have a Hunter's Education certificate if under 14yo.
NC is very youth friendly with plenty of deer but in eastern nc the deer aren't real big If interested I can get more info....dale

We even have a youth day where they can use a rifle one day in archery or BP season.
He can hunt in Alabama and the bag limits are VERY generous as the population is out of control. All the management areas have youth hunts and private lands has a special early youth hunt as well.

Thanks for all the info so far! We will definitely hit up some of you that would be willing to help! If we head to the Midwest/East coast it'll be with a camper and pickup. Hopefully will be able to hit a couple states and fuel his passion for wanting to deer hunt!

You guy can hunt Washington State. You'll have to take he'll have to take hunters education on line and because he's under 8 he'll have to find someone to give him in person skills test. If you already have him shooting safely you should be able to pass it and hunt this coming fall!
