New guy that breaks the rules….

My old boss told me that the guy that invented the first automatic transmission committed suicide.

Tried to look it up sometimes never found out but I wouldn't be surprised.
I was always told the credit for the first successful hydraulic automatic was given to Earl Thompson and used in the 1948 Oldsmobile. That's all I ever heard about him. I can't say that I would be shocked either.

I know that we had a '49 Lincoln with an automatic. In fact, it was a 4 speed auto…..first gear was pretty much a "granny gear"! memtb
