Need a new rifle -- Recommendations!

Hello all,

I'm in the market for a new hunting rifle, chambered in 7mm rem mag. I hunt black bear, deer and elk and I would like accuracy capabilities on game out to 500-600 yards and steel out to around 1,000. I plan to use handloads as well.

I had my eyes on the Bergara B14 Hunter, but just recently heard some less than satisfactory things about them and I am now directing my eyes elsewhere. For my budget, I'd like to stay under $700, but if it's really worth it I can move up to $800.

Please let me know your recommendations.

Much appreciated!

First off this is only recommendations, so my first would be to go with the more energy at the farther distances and bullet selection capabilities of a 30 caliber ! Enough said !

I went through this also. I almost got a 7mm Rem mag...if you can hunt in states that dont require non-lead....you can find good bullets to load a 7 with. I went with a 300 win mag because the copper selection was the best, not because I thought it was that much better than a 7mm Rem Mag.

If I was going to push either round to the limit and hunt the biggest animals, I would go with a 300 for the bullet weights, but a 7mag will do it too.

Versatility and availability matter

I've had my fair share of factory rifles, 3 xbolts, a Tikka t3, Winchester m70, Ruger m77, 5 savage bolt actions, two Remington 700s. My all time favorite is my sendero 7mm rem mag. If I had to put it all on the line and I could only grab one of them out of the safe, it would be that sendero. Yeah it's heavy, but it's never let me down. Never let my Son down either.

Yep, the are a sleeper but makes excellent rifles. I like their dimension model and hope to get one some day. I have a TC Compass in 6.5 CM and here's my 3-shot group at 200 yards with factory ammo.

That should make even the most picky shooters smile. I bought a GRS Model 10 Savage in the 6.5 and it does very well with the Norma 130 grain match loads.
