My rebarrel job is supposed to be done this week. It's a Model 70 with a 26" Shilen Barrel, fluted number 5 contour. 1:9 twist

    I have:

    180 gr Bergers,
    168 gr Bergers
    160 gr Accubonds
    Lots of H-1000
    Lots of Retumbo
    A little RL22
    A little RL25
    Lapua brass
    CCI 250's

I'd like to load the Bergers to pack along incase I have the opportunity to take a long shot and have the Accubonds in the magazine for the closer stuff.

I found a thread stating RL22 and the Accubonds are a good mix. What about the Bergers? Just looking for a good starting point. Are the 180's going to be too heavy?

    Thank you in advance.

RL-25 70grs gave me the speed and acuuracy with the 160 accubonds,3070fps with a Fed215 primer, accuracy was oustanding at 200 yards I got quite a few sub half inch groups when conditions were right!! Rl-22 gave me very good accuracy but the speed was 100fps slower and over book max in charge weight! And this is a 26inch Sauer 202 hunting rifle not a heavy barreled target gun.

with1t/9" berger 180rgs are the best if you have long freebore;i shot with my 7rem only bergers 168grs because my barrel is 1t / 9"1/4.

Thanks for the replies so far. I may try and pick up some more RL25 for the Accubonds.

my laredo did not have a break. it kicked too much with the 180's. i have had good results with re22 re19 h-4831. i would carry one weight/type bullet when hunting

I found the same thing. I shoot the exact same load. 70gr. of RL 25, 160 AB, Fed. 215. Shoots great. I get a little less velocity though. 3000 fps right on when averaged out.

I switched primers and tried the Br cci and that brought my speed downto 3022 avg of 7 shots and accuracy was just as good, but I could not get the speed thatI got with RL-25 with any of the other powders i tried which were, H-100, Rl-22 and IMR 7828. Rl-25 was the ticket and without pressure signs.

    I have a 30" #7 SS in 7 Rem mag. Of all things a 1 in 7 twist...another story...

Am getting great results with 69 grs of RL-25 with both 180 Berger VLD thick and thin jacketed versions. Vel 3100. Custom reamer with bullets solidly into rifling...your results may vary...

OAL of loaded round with 180 Berger VLD is 3.515" with bullet into the rifling approx .015"
I have the luxury of building on a like new Mark X with a 375 H and H magazine box. Lots of room to chase the rifling over time and it fits and feeds great.

Hope you find a great load for you 7 mag.

Thanks for all of the info so far. I loaded up the 180's with H-1000 and the Accubonds with RL25.

I guess my barrel finished out at 27"

I hope to go shoot next weekend.

What is everyone using for a die set? I was thinking of ordering a Lee Collet. I currently have an olds RCBS two die set.

I'll be interested in your results. I've pulled an old S&W M1500 7mm RM out of the closet and figure on maybe working up some loads for it. I was going to try 150 E-Tips, 160 AB's and 180 Bergers and/or JLKs. I'm going to try Retumo and H1000.

Do you shoot at the Logan range? If so, it would be a pleasure to get together and shoot some, sometime.

    Cheers,

    MR

I had the lee collet die and it shaved too much brass off of the brass just above the belt. I bought a new set of RCBS dies and have been much happier.
