6.5 PRC 153.5 grn Berger for 1000yds and 1 mile.

I am running the Berger 153.5 H1000 and it is running 2934. I am seeing single digit spreads. I have been shooting out to 1783 yards. It has been consistent and holds well at that range. Wind like usual is the real problem with smaller calibers. It hits very light at that distance it is running out of steam. When compared to the Berger 245 at 2973. A lot of difference at long range.

My modest & low budget expectations for engaging targets up to 1,000 with my 8 twist 6.5 PRC & 6.5-06 will use the 140 Hornady ELDM bullets @ 2775 -2875 2875- 2925 fps with 57.5 - 58.0 grains of Staball HD & CCI 34 primers. I am concerned with brass life & bolt thrust.

I will also use 6.5 147 Hornady ELDM bullets.

These bullets have pointy plastic tips & provide adequate Sg values using slower twists than long pointy open point bullets - Miller stuff indicates adequate Sg's with 8 twist. Hornady 4DOF indicates adequate stability with 8 twist using 140 & 147 ELDM's.

I have a modest amount of SB HD & Hornady 6.5 PRC brass & my LGS sells both. I hope to shoot milk carton size (1/2 gallon size & smaller) rodents at extended ranges. Real good accuracy, 4 in same hole & 1 almost touching at 100 for numerous groups. Extreme spreads less than 20 fps.

Use of Hornady ELDM & ELDX bullets might be indicated with an 8-twist barrel. I can provide Sg values with the pointy plastic tip Hornady bullets.

If I had to drop a big tough target I would use my .300 WM with 200 grain bullets.

That seems slow, I'm getting 2820 out of my 260 with a 140 hybrid and 3045 out of my 260ai with a lot less powder.

Actually, velocities are 100 fps higher like 2875-2925 reported (error). A look at the Hodgdon reload site shows 6.5-06 pressures running 62-63 K psi for most 140 loads & for 6.5 PRC just about 2900 fps @ 60K PSI with Staball HD.

Brass is pricy & I prefer to keep loads at 60K psi to extend brass life, reduce bolt thrust & make for easy, certain feeding.

A 3% velocity increase isn't worth it.

Edit/add:
Load for accuracerity, especially when shooting more than 20 on blazing hot rodent infestations. Pressures about/under 60K PSI. Max loads reduce hit %'s.

N565 has far exceeded RL26 in my 6.5PRC. They say N568 and N570 are possibly even better but i havent tried them yet. N565 gave me 150-200 fps more than RL26. N565 has brought my rifle to life. Finally
560 should get you more velocity over 565 and 568. 570 is faster by 50fps and more. I'll be shooting 150smk's from 264wm 7.5T. I know 26Nosler and 6.5x300wby (or improved versions will get you there faster), but stayed with the all-time favorite cartridge since '76 (11 yo).
