I am having a 6.5 CM put together on a Blue printed Rem SA with a #4 benchmark barrel finished at 26" . I was hoping some of you 6.5CM guys could tell me what to expect from this outfit using 130-140 gr Berger VLDS I was hoping to get 2750 -2800 would this be to much to expect ,and does anyone have a good powder recommendation I was thinking H 4350 .

You are headed in the right direction. H-4350 is the powder of choice, if you can find it. Hogdon's load manual lists 36 gr. starting load and 40gr for max load for 140gr. Hornady A-Max. Good luck with your new rig.

You should be able to get 2700-2800 with the 140 in a 26" barrel. I have built three Creedmoors on Savage actions and ended up using 130gr bullets for best performance overall. The Norma 130gr bullet was the best target bullet I ever used in the CM. Faster than the 140 and very good BC.

I highly recommend rl-17. With the 140 amax on top of 43 gn of rl -17 im getting 2900 fps out of a 24 in bbl with no signs of pressure. Im getting 1/2 moa with that out of my ruger predator. Ive had good luck with the h 4350 but for me he rl-17 has given me the best velocity and accuracy. My dad is using this same load and is getting 2850 fps out of his 22 in bbl with great accuracy.

Great to know looks like this will be fun shooting and by the looks of things a 140 bullet will work nice on ELK too out to 500 deer look out .

I love RL17 in my Creedmoor with the 140 Berger. I get 2850fps with a mild load in the summer, however this load drops down to 2750ish once the temperature drops below freezing.

I've shot the load in the mid 40's and didn't notice any velocity loss but the next time I shot it near freezing I lost a bunch of velocity. The H4350 will provide much more stable velocities in all temperatures but I'm continuing to use RL17 and will hopefully have the velocity changes all mapped out and be able to make a quick change depending on conditions at the time of shooting.

I can find gold dust easier than H4350. So with that said, would you folks mind sharing your loads using RL17 with 140 grain VLDs?

Can't get the info from Berger since they said they have done limited testing with RL17.

Thanks in advance.

Well im using 43 gn of rl -17 with the 140 a-max and getting 2900 fps. Cant imagine it being much different than using the berger vld. Thats 1.5 gn over max in the hornady manual but still no signs of pressure. Ive found that the realoding manuals are very conservative on their max loads. For factory 140 amax ammo they use 41.5 gn H4350 but their manual says their max load is 40.5 gn. Im assuming its because of liability issues.

Must be some barrel you have there. 2900fps with a 140gr projectile in a 6.5 Creedmoor is 6.5x284 velocity.

Just a 24 in bbl. There are quite a few guys getting 2850 with the 140's so 2900 isnt that much more. Ive put it through the chrono and tested it out to 400yd and so far its spot on. Need to stretch it futher just to make sure thats what im getting.

Our starting load is 41 gr's of H4350, going up to 43.3 which is my load of choice and its running 2820 with a 25" tube. My load for the 130 berger is 44gr's of H4350 and they are doing 2900. I love this round! :D
Of course these are my proven loads so use discretion if you are gonna run my loads and start within reason.

My load of 41 grains of RL17 with a 140 Berger gives me 2850 in temperatures between 40 and 90 degrees. I lose almost 100 fps in temperatures below freezing though and just worked up a load with 42 grains that gives me over 2800fps in freezing temperatures. If the trend holds true it should deliver over 2900 fps in warm weather; and it very well may toast my brass at that point too lol. By the way I'm at 7 firings with my 41.0 grain load at 2850 and haven't lost a single piece of brass yet.

2800 fps in a 25" barrel has not been hard for me to achieve with H4350 and RL17 has given me 50-100 fps better so 2900 fps is not unreasonable in some rifles although I do agree it's substantially faster than should be expected.

I wasnt expecting to get 2900 fps but it what the chrono says and from what ive seen it doesnt seem to be lying. I was actually shocked to see that number. My dad is running the same load and is coming up with 2850 out of a 22 in barrel. He has ran 130s with i believe 44.5 gr of rl-17 and he is at 3005 fps. We were very surprised to see these numbers but hey im not gonna complain:D Im not dishing out false info to make myself look good because i hate it when people do that.
