I'm going to try to work up a load for my 300 wsm this week. I have about 10 pounds of VihtaVuori 550. Anyone have any load data for a 168 gr and 180 gr bullet for this powder? Starting load and somewhere around the max.

go with the 180 my 300 has been shooting its best with 180-200gr. Everything I can find on 550 says it could be to fast. All the VV loads I could find are 560 at best those leave on the heavier bullets too. I hope I am wrong

Hello,
I was just checking and if you look at approximate burn rates vv550 is on par with reloader 19 and imr4350. There are plenty of loads about for the 180gr using them.
With the 168gr people are using a slightly faster powder.

That's what I was going to do if I didnt find any load data for the vv 550. I was going to use imr 4350 data as a starting load.

Or maybe not. The latest Nosler book shows IMR4350 starting at 61.0 and maxing at 65.0 for the 180gr bullets in .300 WSM. Vith N550 starts at 57.0 and maxes at 61.0! Trying to use RL19 numbers is even worse, with a 63.0 start and 67.0 max.

Jerry where did u get that data at? I see the 165 gr bullet with VV 550 I don't see a 180 gr. If you can confirm that again, u just gave me my starting point!! I don't see how the burn rate chart puts it in line with imr 4350, and rl 19. That's quiet a bit of difference. Thanks Moe

Nosler Reloading Guide 5th Edition, Copyright 2002. Page 342

For 180 gr bullets in .300WSM it shows:
W760 Start 60.0 Max 64.0
H414 S 60.0 M 64.0
IMR4350 S 61.0 M 65.0
Viht N550 S 57.0 M 61.0
RL19 S 63.0 M 67.0
IMR4831 S 63.5 M 67.5
AA3100 S 64.0 M 68.0
H4831sc S 65.5 M 69.5
RL22 S 65.0 M 69.0
IMR7828 S 66.0 M 70.0

IMR4831 and RL22 show the highest velocities at max, a bit over 3050 in their 26" test barrel. Viht N550 and H4831sc are the lowest, around 2975.

I've checked my typing, but there's always the chance of a mistake, so verify.
