Recently I have been searching for a hot rod of some sorts, ballistically speaking, Initially I was looking for load data for the Cheytech level rifles however after extensive research I have came to the conclusion that I personally do not need a cheytac. One thing that I have been looking at however are the 300 Norma improved and the 30–338 lapua improved. These two Chamberings are similar in usage. however the Lapua beats out the norma velocity wise. With a 30 inch barrel in both, my findings show a 230gr in a norma improved thrown at about 3075-3150 fps compared the the lapua imp at 3200-3250. I would like to use this rifle to push the 230 berger/A-tip at 3200 fps and the 245 berger/250 A-tip at about 3000-3100 fps. I am certain the lapua can handle this, however in yalls experience can the Norma improved achieve this? Along with the requirement of the 245 berger at 3000 FPS I would like to have a separate barrel on a switch barrel rig chambered in the same case but in 375. With the 375 norma or Lapua improved I would be able to use the same rifle for big game with confidence (moose or any bear). I also ask what ballistics would the 375 Norma improved have? The 375 Lapua imp seems to have a 350gr matchking at 2900 and a 300gr at 3050. The only thing stopping me from just going with the more impressive Lapua ballistics is I would like to magazine feed this rifle. Unless there is a detachable box magazine that feeds to 4.0 inches, I am unsure on how I could mag feed the lapua. I saw that ryan pierce back in 2016 mentioned a 4.0" length magazine in development by Curtis custom, however I cannot find it.

Any help would be great

Just hearsay but once heard the 30 Lapua was not as (inherently) accurate whatever that means.
I was also looking at the 30 Lapua but went with the 300nmi because I also wanted to mag feed.
I use the m5 style dbm from accurate mag. Its a 3.850 and my coal is about 3.770ish with 230 Berger. This puts bullet base at case/shoulder junction.
I'm able to get right at 3200 (@ sea level) with N570 with 28 inch 9.5tw.
I have a 32inch 8tw for the 250 atips but haven't put it on yet to see what kinda speed I can get with them.
I'm sure one could squeeze out another 100fps with Lapua but not sure its worth the hassle

I have a 300 Lapua that is running the 245 bergers at 3000 without any issues. It is built on single shot defiance due to COAL being 3.98 on a 28" 1-9 barrel.

OP, Hot rods have different meanings to different people. What's your definition?
The 30-338 lapua will be hard to beat (improved or std) if you go by MY definition.

Curious how your decision turned out and what, if anything you would change?
With ARC releasing a custom, sub $1000 action in a .588 bolt face...It pushed me over the edge for a build.
Personally I'm leaning toward a switch barrel in 7 LRM and either 30-338 Lapua Mag Imp or 300 Norma Imp...I'm leaning more toward the 250 Atip and the biggest reason for me to go with the Norma would be to have more flexibility in OAL. The velocity difference isn't of huge concern, but If I'm going to be running the heaviest class bullet...I'd like to make sure I'm able to maximize the case usage.
I was 90% sure I wanted the 300 Norma Imp...but now I'm 2nd guessing.

I have been down this road. I am guaranteed to not help you make any decisions whatsoever. I ended up building a 338 LMAI. I built a shorter barrel version, as I used it for suppressed hunting. It wears a 26 inch LRI (K&P). For me, it has been insanely easy to tune and find loads for. Virtually every bullet and powder combination has a 1/4" load. I settled on a 300 grain a tip and N570. I do run these at CIP mag length. I am running nowhere near Max, and it is cruising the a tip at around 2960 fps. If I would have went with a 28 or 30 inch barrel, I'm sure my velocity would be more impressive. When I shoot this barrel out, I have no plans to leave this cartridge. It is truly the best cartridge I have ever owned.

All of this being said, the 300 NMAI Would be an awesome round as well. The 250 A Tip is incredible! Every time I see a thread like this, I convince myself that I need one as a sister cartridge to my 338.

What powder do you want to use? I have a 300NMI with a 24.5" HCA barrel. Doing ladder tests with 230 OTM, 230 ATip and 250 ATip.

230 OTM - Pressure at 3198fps
230 ATip - Pressure at 3240
250 ATip - Pressure at 3175

Now when I say pressure I mean hard click, stiff bolt, plunger marks on brass.

The barrel is throated for 230 OTMs. 230 OTMs were touching and the A Tips were .020" jump.
Brass is ADG and powder is N570.

For me...I'll likely be using RL33 and likely be using a 26"-28 braked barrel. 3100-3200 is where I wanted to be so thT makes sense

IME RL33 will yield ~50fps less which would mostly if not all be made up by the additional barrel length.

I was contemplating a similar items as you but in 338. I compared a 338 NMI to a 330 LMI and according to QL with pressures being equal there was only 50-60fps difference. Hardly enough for me to give up the versatility of the NMI in favor of the LMI.

The 30-338 lapua doesn't make sense as lapua has a 300lm and the case length is the same. So are you using a 338 and necking it down as to not find 300lm cases? 300nm has a higher pressure threshold than the 338 and 300 lm's by about 3k. I would stick with the norma, improved or not.

Can you buy 300 lapua brass anywhere?

I've ran a couple 30/338 lap improved and I'll say they are potent.

I'm running a 30/338 lapua unimproved now and it's pretty potent also.
