Hornady 230gr eldX bullet
Estimated impact velocity 2200fps
Media: alternating milk jugs & wet phone books

Went through 3 jugs decimating the first 2 and expanding jug 3 well. Jacket and core stayed intact and stuck in back of 3rd book.

Thanks for your tests and report! But, you've verified what I suspected....they are too fragile (not enough penetration and too much weight loss) for "my" big game bullet! They may be "the cat's meow" for many....but I'll pass. Should be a great Whitetail/Pronghorn bullet!

Just for the sake of testing, could you try the test at full velocity, 2800 to 2900 fps impact velocity.....simulating a shot taken at feet, rather than many yards!

Thanks again for the report! memtb

Awesome. Thanks for doing that. Looks like that is about a 600 yard shot if fired at 2900 MV (typical 338 WM).

I too would love to see a 100 yard impact test (2700-2800 impact speed)

ALSO: jug pic #2 shows the 1st phone book wadded up and stuffed inside jug 2. Ive done a lot of testing with jugs and "wet" phone books and don't recall seeing that before.... just thought it was interesting

I agree it seems to be a softer bullet and may not be advisable to use on BIG game at close range with the MV of magnum cartridges. I wish the 225gr accubond had the same BC as this 230gr eldX. I dont have any of these but would like to test them soon as well.
