From what I've seen, Bad Bull is in the lead position with smokeless, their rem 700 based smokeless runs a little faster and probably even cleaner than white hot in an Ultimate Muzzleloader. A few guys on Doug's site are running hot and mixed loads with 275 grain bullets upwards of 2700fps. I think the risks are high though and injury could be fatal. I'll bet the Ultimate Muzzleloader with a little better bc bullets will extend today range. I think they have a great platform, I spoke with Mr. Johnson today and I will probably put in an order tomorrow. Stay in touch on this, we can compare notes, muzzleloading with accuracy out to 500 or so yards seems pretty cool. The limiting factor on longer range is bc right now. I think this will change in time.

With the 275 match hunter with as BC of .385 at 2400fps it would be 35 inches of wind drift and a 7 moa adjustment on your scope.

I would bet that encore isn't going to be putting a Simmons on this gun and will be getting a gun with target turrets to make the correct adjustment on the snore for long shots.

I'm looking at both the VX6 and the Mark series. I know shooters with the VX6 3-18 CDS and it gets them what they need, although I've seen rifles with the Mark series on them. I may have a way to get a Pro Discount on either one of the scopes, which would be DARN NICE. I think I may have mentioned this before but, part of the whole quest is that I'm obtaining everything without touching the savings account or having to "GET A JOB!", as the wife puts it. I have to admit, this part is work, but fun too! (I've been retired to long to want a job BTW)

Its going to be a whole new adventure and will be fun learning LONG range shooting. Its one thing to shoot 200yds, which are chip shots but, 350yds and beyond takes some learning. This is will be a complete new learning adventure, where wind and other environmental conditions must be learned. Now I'm in no way bashing T/C (which I shoot), CVA, Knight or any other production rifle but, I've reached the point where there's nothing more I can do with production rifles. Its like the Encore platform rifles, I can take them apart, change trigger springs, locking bolt springs, firing pin springs, hammer springs, hone and polish the sear, install trigger over travel screws but, I still end up with a 200yd rifle. I can open up the safe, grab my Pro Hunter (Bad Medicine) and my shoot'n box and walk out to the back yard bench and shoot 50 rounds and know exactly what's going to happen every time. However now something new is about to start happening and I'm looking forward to it.

Im happy with my little short stubby(24"bbl) CVA wolf, it does exactly what i got it for, missouri bp season is basically the last 10 days of the year, by then the deer around home are over the rifle season, starting to herd up(20-100+) and stalking into 100 yards is pretty easy providing the snow isnt crunchy...in mo bp is just to try to avoid tag soup...

I just ordered an Ultimate yesterday and I'm having him put a vx-6 on it, he is a gunsmith and hunter and his team just won the Nationals with his rifles. The setup up is identical to all the guys on his shooting team, vx-6 with the firedot and his turret matching the load. He bragged about the firedot for hunting, it is one of the best hunting reticles in the field. He said he will zero it in, make sure it shoots as advertised and put his turret on it. Basically turnkey. It costs to do this, but I won't need another ml and his name on it is golden. I really liked talking with him, he is getting older now (75) but loves building rifles and especially these ml's. He told me he gets a special single shot action from Remington, made the way he wants it and I like his knowledge. The gun will retain it's value and be safe to shoot. There are not too many people in the ml business at the gunsmith level, so that is pretty unique. Some states have month long muzzle seasons, so I plan to do some hunting trips and I want something of high quality that lasts. He also has had lots of success building bench rifles too, and has a regular team shooting at Camp Perry. All good stuff guys, I'll let you know more when I get it, around early May.

Love to hunt, spending the bucks on a custom. I might get an Encore as a backup, they can be had occasionally for 500 I think.

Totally understandable, at least everything but the last part. My Pro Hunter has served me very well and in most cases and most days, it does exactly what its designed to do.

BP is the only way I've hunted for probably the last 25 years, except for one season I took a doe with an old Marlin Model 1881 in 40-60 and when going to Saskatchewan, I take a centerfire. Muzzleloading gets in shooters blood and once you build your confidence in them over the years, some of us want more or a change. I try to make it fun and enjoy what capabilities I have left....

I may use the wolf during our regular firearms season depending on which propertys im huntin, but as i drive a semi and our cf season is 2 weeks to kill a buck and 2 weeks to kill does and i never know when im gettin home, i always end up with left over tags...i almost always am home from Christmas till new years so why not muzzy hunt?!

Much different. Although the right eye detachment and tear was pretty evasive, recovery from this left eye surgery is taking longer and a bit more painful....

You'll be happy with it for sure. I've been shooting Ultimate's for over 10 years now and have over 70 big game kills with one. Nothing on the market shoots as clean and as easy as an Ultimate, period.

My go to load is the 275gr Fury behind 3 white hot pellets. My farthest shot was a Whitetail at approx 450 yards and I've killed over 25 deer and antelope at 300+ yards. I've personally seen 600yd kills with one. Just like any rifle it takes practice and learning your dope to be proficient at 300+ yards.

300 yards and under I don't even hesitate to take a shot when the opportunity arises.

What scope do you prefer on your Ultimate?

Currently run a 4.5-14 Leupy LR with M1 BDC turret. Going to go with the Nightforce 2.5-10x42 in mil/mil to match my other rifles. Getting away from MOA and going to Mils on everything.

Ken's working on mine right now and he is putting a Leupold VX-6 with the firedot reticle and his turret as we speak. He told me it is his favorite setup and his guys at the Nationals are using the same. He is pretty serious about his muzzleloaders, I am really happy he's doing a build for me. Can't wait to see the end product.
