Finished up my 180 hybrid load in 7rm

What is the minimum speed for the 180 hybrids to perform on deer sized game??? I am not sure how well they will perform only seen them on ground hogs and out past 1000 they tend to just poke a hole.

Stop paying attention to 100 yard groups. Shoot for groups at 300 yards. Start your load close to the lans shoot for velocity. Then when you get to the correct velocity adjust the seating depth while shooting for groups until you find the spot that your rifle likes.

+1. as stated in my first post my 375 yrd groupd were better than my 200yd groups. And if i went with 100 yard groups i wouldnt have tested this load at longer distances. Meaning that i didnt have 2 shots touching at 100 out of 3 shots.

I have seen people group very well at 100 and hammer at 1000. But ive seen people that still hammer at 1000 with crappy 100 yard groups. I guess its true that sometimes they need to "go to sleep"

I recently moved and dont have access to a longer place to shoot and farmers arent to willing to let me stretch out on their land. What do you guys think?

I think you should go find a land owner who has never shot past 600 yards before and invite them to some trigger time.:D It's kind of a give and take. They offer up the land, you offer up the rifle. Who knows, they may like the LR shooting so much you're invited to return during hunting season to thin the deer population.

Good advise!

And nice rifle and shootin OP!

Heading out to the bush today for my deer hunt. Shot a quick group today at 450 yards. Cant wait to see what the do to a whitetail.

A quick rundown of load.
Winchester brass neck sized, redding body die shoulder bumped 1 thou. Reamed flash hole and primer pockets.
F215m primer
180 hybrids 5thou off.
69 grains H1000. No pressure signs. (Work up to it if trying this combo)
Drops show 3005 fps verified out to 700ish yards.

Shawnb!
Nice shooting!! Looks like you have a winner there! Great info also. I too have aquirred a box of the 180 hybrids, just haven't tested them yet! That 7 mag that I have that is all over the place, I done what everyone suggested( 300 yard groups, etc) still the gun wouldn't act right. Tried lighter bullets an it did seem to like them a little better. Checked the twist an it's a 1-9.5 instead of 1-9. So I throwd up both hands an now it's getting rebarreld to a 338 ultra!(but that's another storey) anyway, thanks for sharing your info, as I have another 7 mag that seems to like this load! Thanks again an good shooting!!

I have to ask how on earth is this possible ?? Laws of physics doesn't add up....

I bet a stock trigger with some variable wind and the most important aspect is your thought of doing better at 450 compared to 100 is over shadow by your abilities to shoot long range, simply your not in a hurry to shoot 450 as to 100... Either way the smallest change to grip, cheek placement or the rifle simply recoiling straight back would allow for better groups. HERE'S A CHALLENGE, STICK YOUR TONGU OUT WHEN SHOOTING, I LL BET GROUPS DIFFERENTLY

Thanks everyone. Yes i know what you mean about groups, and i have no idea. The only thing i can think of is that just recently my lyman dps3 started crapping out. And ive only been loading a handfull of shells at a time. Maybe some were on and some were off by a little.

Really have no answer than what i saw with my groups. But im sure that there was something at play.

On a side note. Heres my trophy for the year. 275 yards and chasing a doe.

Shot a little high a back but dropped him dead. The hybrids performed good for that one shot but im not drawing any conclusions yet. 2 does left this year. Hopefully one close and one far to test different velocities. But from what ive read it should perform well.

Tried editing the photo. Wouldnt let me. I resized it to get it right this time. Thanks. Im not sure at all about judging score. But its a 13 point. And pretty thick all the way through. My brother saw a bigger one a mile away from where i got this one. But spooked it into the bush and didnt get a chance to shoot.
