which scope for 17 HMR

How are you going to use it? Are you going to dial the turrets for varying distances or do you want to use a reticle for hold over? How far do you plan to shoot? What are you targets going to be?

it will be used for ground squirrels, crows and targets of course from ranges 100-300 yards. I would like hold over preferably i tihnk but dont care either way. I normally dial and would like to test a hold over scope.

Any Burris scope with the ballistic plex will give you 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 yard holdovers with the 17 HMR. The Burris Timberline 4.5-14 for around 200 bucks is a great scope for the 17.

When you say hold over you mean that you want to use a reticle for holdover?

And how much do you want to spend?

Im not too sure, i figured take a look at a bunch of difference scopes. 500-600 bucks is starting to get a little high for a rimfire to me.

Thinking of going with a Burris FullField II 3-9 or 4.5-14x42mm with ballistic plex because it works with a 17 HMR drop out too 300

is there any good dialing scopes for a 17

I bought a BSA sweet 17 that I paid $29 for and it was awesome! The glass was not great, but for less than 30 bucks I didn't really care. The turret came pre-marked and was dead on out to 300 yards. I just got sick of mediocre glass and after dialing hundreds of shots it finally gave up the ghost.

I switched to a Burris and liked it much better because it was faster for me, the holdovers were plenty accurate, and I wasn't worried about wearing out the turrets since I wouldn't be dialing.

Cabelas has some scopes that come with pre-marked turrets for the 17 HMR. You could also buy any scope you wanted with target turrets and dial the yardage.

The 17 HMR has a big rainbow trajectory especially if you are shooting out to 300 yards. There are some reticle designs that will get you out to 300 yards but my concern would be that you aren't going to like the in between distances where there are no marks. For example, I think the ballistic plex gives you hold marks for 150, 200, 250, and 300 yards. But if you are shooting small target like prairie dogs at an in between distance I am not sure how well you are going to like that reticle. If I were going to go with a reticle for the 17 HMR I would look at a graduated hash reticle in 1/2 MIl or 1 or 1 MOA so you have lots of hold points.

Like you mentioned dialing may be the better option just because you can dial for what ever distance your target is and the have an exact hold point. So I personally would look at t graduated reticle or dial but wouldn't look at the BDC styles. That is just me though.

I have a Weaver V16 on mine. They are very nice scopes. Excellent reputations for durability, and turret repeatability. Their glass is very nice, especially for the price. Their turrets are semi target so you get the target feel with MOA and click marks shown on the turret in a compact package. One of my very favorite scopes for rimfire and small centerfire arms.

which burris did you go with? and the ballistic plex reticle was accurate out too 300?

I have used a bunch of different Burris scopes on my 17. I had a 4-16 Signature select, 3-9 FF2, 4.5-14 FF2, and a 4.5-14 Timberline. The ballistic plex reticle is the same regardless of which scope it's in. It's calibrated at 14x or 9x depending on the scope and it worked extremely well for me for fast paced shooting at various ranges.
