Looking for some load ideas for my 257 weatherby. Asked around a bit and most say that they can not duplicate factory loadings no matter how hard they try. I shoot 100gr factory ammo now and yes it's fast but i am not enamored with the accuracy. Let me know what you think.

I get over 3800 fps with magpro and a 100 grain ttsx. Have shot 2 1/2" GROUPS AT 620 YARDS. 1 1/2" AT 400 YARDS REGULARLY. caps lock off now. Magpro does well with this size case. Mine is a mk5 wby 26" barrel.

all the 100gr that i have shot are the non-tipped version factory loadings. i shot them through my friends chrono and they are actually faster than advertised. i go some RL22 and some 115gr balistic tips. i am going to try those soon. my rifle is a remington 700 LS. I have heard mixed reviews on the weatherby's in a 700 action.

I have the same rifle as you remington 700 lss mountain rifle, have run 100grn nbt's at 3800 and some change with 75.5grns RE25, start much lower, retumbo works well with 115s and high neck tension 3500+, be careful with that rifle, it can be finicky.

what length do you load to? i have been hearing some hubub about weatherby and excessive free bore to get the extra velocity? not sure about any of that but i am going to start load development soon. so i was just curious what your overall was with 115's.

3.265" start at about 69grns with retumbo or 68 with RE25, use CCI 250s to keep the ES down.

This was quite a few years ago. One of my friends got a Weatherby MKV in 257 WBM and could not get it to shoot as well as he thought it should. He sent a letter with targets and load data to Weatherby and the reply that he got came on a post card. "Weatherby makes a hunting rifle not a target rifle". The old H-870 that is no longer made was the go to powder for many that I knew of that used the 257 WBM. Retumbo should work well because it does in my 264 Win Mag and H-870 used to be the go to powder for it.

That's what the chrony says anyways, my ballistics(drops) say the bullet is running faster than that by almost 100 fps.

That should be a fine bullet for any rifle that "likes" it.

I have found that RE22 is a good powder and RE25 is the best for the highest speeds and tighter groups but can be over 100fps temperature sensative. H870, Retumbo, H1000, and magnum are good for pretty high speed, great accuracy, and way less sensative with lower extreme spreads. I built a 257 roy on a savage 116 with a 28" barrel for a buddy of mine, it only has .270" freebore and it favors Imr4350 with 100s and H4831sc with 115s both with CCI BR2s.

I shoot 115 bergers with rl25 70grns @3150fps. I have chronoed this load at freezing temps and at 90 degrees no difference in velocity. i have an accumark if this helps

I have the Remington CDL and have to say I'm not impressed.

117gr Hornady SST
Fed 215 primer
Just use the Hornady recommended COL 3.215
That is the most accurate load for mine I have found so far, and it is 1.25" @ 100. I haven't even had a chance to shoot it over my Chrony yet.

Try accubonds, b-tips, or scirocco's with a longer 3.333 or better, and re 22 from 69-72.5 grains. All the folks at my range that have one of these guns find accuracy somewhere in there.

Thanks for that information. I have about worn myself out looking for the right load for this one. I will load some Accubonds tonight.
