You are in for a great time. I have a Savage M11 with a PacNor 25" magnum contour 1-8". For hunting try Barnes 120 TSX w/RL22 @ 3400.
Berger 130VLD w/RL25 @ 3250 are also impressive. As to the site previously mentioned, I never had any luck with loads listed, as they say your milage may vary...

So far I have bought some Nosler BT 120gr and Accubound 130 gr.bullets and I have my choice of about 20 different powders. To be honest I am a little scared of the berger bullet they advertise it blows up!! That is great if the shot is perfect but I am not perfect by one means. I need a blood trail were I hunt you crawl not walk off a trail [N. Louisiana Hill country]. If one could please tell me how to post a pic on this site this is the first rifle I personally have ever built and want to show it off!!!

I have no problem with the bergers. Im loading the 140's just touching, with 66.5 grains of H1000 and wlr primers. On my chrono there averaging about 3275 fps threw a 28" barrel and group 4 shots at a 1/2" at a 100yds....if I take my time.

I am in the same boat as you, just got my gun last week. I am working on loads using RL-22, H-1000, and N-160 (???) w/140grn JLK's right now. I will keep you posted on my results.

I had a Ruger m77 MarkII 260 Remington rechambered for 6.5WSM not long after the Short Mags began. I have a Win M70 Coyote in 7mm WSM but either the gun got heavier or I'm getting older,
so I thought what the heck. I needed a new toy.gun) Shooting original factory 22" barrel with 1 in 9" twist. Nice light rifle. My primary use for this gun is dispatching Pa whitetails @ ranges from 50-600 yds though I know it would work for other purposes.
The load that works quite well for me on paper uses the 140 berger hunting bullet on top of 65.2 grs of H1000, Winchester cases necked turned to .0145 and a .290 bushing that gives .003 neck tension and Fed GM210M primer. I am getting 2980 fps and printing 3/4" ( and a little less on good days} groups consistently at 100 yds. At this charge I am not seeing any pressure signs whatsoever. In fact I went heavier but the groups opened up, still with no apparent pressure, so I backed off. Please remember to back off of this load and work your way up if you decide to try it.
This fall will be my first chance to harvest a deer with this particular load, though my boy killed several with it using 129 Hornady SST's. What a mess!
I e-mailed Berger and they say that this load should perform well for what I want.

I tried H1000 but Retumbo & N570 were substantially faster, N570 being the king

I just today got my 22" stainless 6.5 wsm barrel fitted to one of my 264 remingtons. I tried varget RL19, RL22, H4831, & varget but N160 with 85 gr HP will put 3 shots in one round hole size was .165. still working with this powder have not found max load yet. Have not run it through my chronograph yet either.

I have a 6.5x284 Norma. The H4831sc is what I shoot the 140vld's with. Does a very nice job with 52grns. Not sure with the short mag however.

isnt this caliber very hard on barrel life? how many rounds before barrel is shot out?

Norma 270 wsm cases necked down. Rem 9.5 mag primers. 140 Berger. 2.432" to ogive. 57.2gr H4831sc. most accurate load.
RL-17 is good on accuracy too with the 140's but is more temp sensitive. About 56gr.
I tried Retumbo, H-1000, Ramshot Magnum, and H4350 all with the Berger 140's. The first 2 listed were the most accurate in my rifle producing .25-.3moa out to 300yds on paper. RL-17 gave the best accuracy/speed combo but in my opinion if you are shooting with a 24-26" barrel H4831sc is the ticket. Its a little slower but at 300 yds i stopped shooting when 7 shots were inside 3/4". Very good load.
