What's your favorite Hot Rod?

Reading all these post takes me back to my 5.0 days . I had a 85 I rebodied to look like a 90 model . It had a GT40 crate engine with a 144 supercharger and a holley 750 double pumper . I kept the 5 speed amd had a 390 gear ratio . It would go 11.90's in the 1/4 mile on street tires .

We went to the very first Dream Cruise on Woodward Ave in Detroit . My brother had a V8 S10 pickup and his friend had a Buick Grand National .
The Dream Cruise the first year was wide open , burn outs , drag racing , everything was permitted . Then they started writing tickets the next year . I'll try to find some pictures .

I have a friend who had a V8 S10. Took it to the drag strip and it was a disappointment so last winter he yanked it out and shoehorned a 568 Big Block into it!?

Havent talked to him in awhile, guess I'll give him a call and see how she ran....
 
Man those were awesome times, cruising, street racing and building fast cars... Ya know, they'll NEVER write a song about a Toyota Prius or Tesla HAHAHA!

Those were awesome times. I have been a motorhead since the 70s. Street raced in the late 70s, dirt track in the 80s, drag race in the 90s.. my avatar is a picture of me on my drag bike through the 90s, hand built by me. Started as a 1982 GS1100E Suzuki I bought in 91. Put 200 miles on it on the street, the winter of 91-92 stripped it down of all unnecessary weight. To make a long story short, I came out the spring of 92 with a 130hp hell on 2 wheels. Averaged 150 mph and 9:00 seconds in the 1/4 mile, went through the finish line in 5th gear at 11000.rpm. What a rush. Sold it in 98. In 2000 I started on this 67 Cobra. 427 cobra jet engine, a few years back I started changing things, put a modern 5 speed automatic in, and lately putting fuel injection in it. Toys for big boy's.

I love all the Cobras! I can't imagine a 427 Iron engine with all the weight, racing as fast as they did. Wow.

My dream to hitch a ride in a Cobra, even a replica, American muscle at it's finest!!! Sure a massaged British shell but underneath ohhh boy!!! Still one of the only cars to do 0 to 100 mph then back to 0 in 10 seconds!!! I'm sure the new all wheel drive electric super cars can beat that easily, try it with a 4 speed gas carbureted engine. CRAP tires and no traction control!!! Shelby Cobra, the original super car!!!

I've been trying to find the pic of a '65 stingray I did all of the mechanical and electrical on (no body work). It didn't have the 327mfi in it, just replaced before me with a 350. 1st year for 4-wheel disc brakes and 4-wheel independent suspension. This was my project car the year I started mechanic school. Rebuilt the engine (don't remember all the specs) by adding 2.02 heads, 650 (vacuum secondaries), electronic distributor w/mechanical tach drive, mid-range cam, 9.5/1 pistons and ? intake. 2nd quarter was on to brakes and front-end. SS 6-piston calipers, realigned front end, replaces the front coils, replaced the rear leaf, realigned the rear suspension. The only class I didn't work on it was automatics (Muncie 4-speed). The B/FE instructor wanted to go for a test run in the 1/4 to see how it handled? He stated to me that the '65 wouldn't run straight enough with the rear independent suspension. I was up for the challenge! Got the car straight, the tires straight and wheel set just right. Went thru the 1/4 without hands on the wheel as it ran straighter than a straight edge. Time was 12.3 @ 112mph. Not fast, but decent. BTW, I didn't like what Chevy had the caster and camber settings at (1/4-1/2) on the rear so I set it at 0. The fastest I went in that car was 137 as any faster it would start floating/drifting. Back in '86 I outran a 427 Chevelle, 911 Porsche and a 455 T/A.
 
That's like asking what's your favorite child. 69 goat,79 &82 z28s…..naw I'm lying only got one kid and only had one favorite hot rod=Chevy 70-80s 4x4 pulling/farm truck. 454 4 speed on 40" cut mudders man that was a fun rig, pull a sled, 4 wheel burnouts and 147 mph on the top end.
