which reloader?

Alright, so I want to get into reloading my own ammo and have done a little web research on reloaders but want to get some opinions from people who have used some. From what I have read Lee makes a pretty good reloader and so does RCBS. Anyone use these?

I don't care for Lee equipment. I prefer RCBS, Redding, and Forster. I have a rockchucker press and the Bonanza co-ax press.

that will get you started. From there, you'll see what else you need. Get with a friend who has been reloading for awhile, to set you up the first time, at least. The main thing, when starting, is to go slow and keep your batches small. That way, when you make a mistake, you have not lost very much.

What are the differences in the new models vs. the units made 10, 15 or 20 years ago?

Besides having a larger frame and the ambidextrous handle, the new presses are made in China. They aren't bad, but they aren't as tight as the older production. I like the close tolerances of the Redding presses. Forster Co-Ax is also well made, but a little too complex for my taste; it's a matter of preference.

There is one problem getting with a friend who has been reloading, you would first need a friend who reloads. haha I plan on buying a book on reloading and figuring out what to do before I go and spend the money on a reloader. I want to know what I am getting myself into first. I know if I do start I want one that it is accurate and can produce the same results each time I use it.

Post on several forums and show your location. There's a good chance someone will volunteer to help.

"The ABC's of Reloading" is a good primer. You'll also want to read a loading manual, like Lyman's.

I am reloading rifle, 7mm rem mag.

Can you recomend other forums to visit? I am new to the entire gun scene and havent looked around for different forums yet. I found this one by accident.

I now use a Lee Classic Cast single stage. It is stronger and has no slop in it compared to the Hornady press I had previously. The Lee costs alot less as well. The new Classic Cast is alot better than the other Junk Lee presses.

Wolfe Publishing has a recent DVD available that may be helpful: "Advanced Handloading - Beyond the Basics." It's not too advanced. It's co-produced by Sierra Bullets and Redding Equipment.

Take a good look at the current discussions on the two forums. There are some excellent ones directed toward your inquiry. BTW, you're going about this the right way. Do your homework first.

Yea, I have learned to do my homework from mistakes I have made, try and do something then read up on it, doesn't work as well I came to find out. I will check those forums.
