Oops, got varget in my 4166

I gave it a try, used 24gr behind Hornady 60gr varmint, shot 7 shots, 4 made one hole about 1/4 low of center, 3 grouped 1 inch to right and low, I'm thinking mixed powder caused them but 4166 is looking pretty good, I'll use up what I got and then looking forward to making some just 4166 loads, lol.
Well if it didn't launch the bolt/carrier or blow the bottom of the mag out it appears the range fairy was looking after you.

Accidentally poured varget from my trickler into into powder drop with 4166, from what I see they are pretty close to burn rates, thinking of just making some light loads to sight in micro red dot on AR, think this is ok or dangerous and I'm guessing it would give me crazy groups if I tried anything else with it longer range.

I have done similar stunts in the past and simply bit the bullet so to speak and poured the contaminated powder into a quart of cheap motor oil to neutralize it then burned the oil along with some scrap wood in my burn barrel. I'm a chicken **** when it comes to explosives and value my hands and eyes to much to take a chance.

Send it to ButterBean. He could use it in his new "needmore" rifle.
Hed probably be able to correct for the Varget contamination by adding a little Staball 6.5 after all , it would be real Staball with 4166, Varget, and Staball 6.5 all mixed together,
and his needmore, wouldnt need no more....🙂🤔

6.5 Cocktail Mix.....Woooowee!

Back in the day with way fewer powder choices, some experimenters got some improved ballistics. But I'l bet that they had to carry their gonies back and forth to the gun shops in wheel barrows

Well I went to straight 4166 today and my groups got worse, it was windy but kinda was expecting better.

As you have found, it can affect your resuls - though in your instance, the wind likely affected you more.
I've had a similar goof in the past with unseen powder pocketed in the hopper.
Changed how I clean my gear after reloading and any spilled powder goes into a "junk" jar for pyrotechnics later.

Short term, not a worry. I would be most concerned with mixing different chemistry powders and potential long term effects as they decompose.
