I am thinking about buying a model 700 in .270. And it is a long action. My question is, if down the road i want to make this gun into a .223 by getting a new barrel installed will the long action work or is this not even possible? I may sound like an idiot asking but i need to know before i spend the money.

Thanks,

It's 'possible' but the boltface is different -where the cartridge wraps around the end of the case.
A 22-250 has the same boltface as a 270 .

It would take buying another bolt to make it a 223 -not really practical imo.

What's your reasoning for possibly wanting to turn a 270 into a 223?

You'd be wasting your time.

Just in case i wanted to do that. It doesn't sound like it is something i want to do. I would prolly end up finding a good deal on another gun anyways. Thanks for the input.
