Accurate 4350: Low Velocities

I've shot a ton of AA-4350 over the years in my 6XC "F" class rifle. Yes it's slower than the other 4350's and closer to H-4831sc. Accuracy as very good and kept them in the X ring at 1,000 yds when I did my part. Velocity as just a little over 3K FPS with low SD's and ES

I have used IMR 4350 when my H4350 was getting low. Also scored 10# of A4350 for $415 w/hazmat & tax.

H4350 meters the best, granules are shortest. Then comes A, IMR has the longest & is a bitch in the powder measure. Sometimes I wish I could use a mallet! 😫. But, I was able to develop a good shooting load in my 6x47 Lapua I shoot a 300 yd F class with (bench).

I have not yet had time to develop a load for the A.

I did a test with all three 4350's in a 26" barreled 30-06 all loaded the same weight charge 58.0grs.I was using a WLR primer,Winchester case,168gr Nosler BT.A-4350 produced the highest velocity @2918fps,followed by IMR-4350 @ 2907fps and last was H-4350 @2889fps.All three groups were under 3/4".Best group was from A-4350,followed by second best IMR-4350,followed by H-4350.Case fill.A-4350 filled about half way up the neck,IMR-4350,about one quarter the way up the neck and H-4350 was at the bottom of the neck.Powders can vary from lot to lot,but this was my results.

I've got 2lbs of Accurate 4350 I picked up in April brand new from Midway.
I've loaded this powder in 6.5 Creedmoor and .270.

In the 6.5 Creedmoor I barely made it to 2600 FPS in a 24" barrel Tikka with 143 grain ELD-X.

Today in a 22" barrel Tikka .270 best I could get was 2750 FPS with a 130 grain Interlock at 55.5 grains. I was right on the edge of pressure signs.

SD and ES numbers were acceptable but this powder is awful for velocity. Did I get a bad batch?
As a reference.. My 6/5 with 40.1 gn of H4350 and 143 ELD-X out of a 24" barrel, I get 2725 fps.

Hi there. I've been hanging around for about a year or so. Have had lots of questions, but finally decided to ask about one. I just started, like a lot of people, reloading last year just before the pandemic hit. Fortunately, I've been able to accumulate a decent supply of components, including a4350. Like several others it appeared to be closer to H4350 than what people are discovering. So, my question is whether using magnum primers rather that standard would help bring up the velocities, or would it cause pressure problems? Thanks for any answers and/or suggestions. Cheers! BTW - the rifle is a Remington 700 BDl 30-06 I purchased in '65.

I started using WLRM primers in my 308 Win's and 30-06's.I was using WLR primers in them which is one of the hottest primers.I tried the magnums because I load for several magnum rifles too and I wanted to see if I could just get by with just buying magnum primers.I really didn't see much of an increase in velocity, maybe around 15fps,if anything my groups might have even got better.

WLRMs are the only primers I have at the moment, and not many of those. I use them with W760 with 165 gr. Speer SPBT, and get reasonably good results. I'd like tighter groups so I'm waiting for some regular large rifles to pop up on the internet to use with the a4350 and 168gr Sierra Matchkings I have on hand. From what you're saying, perhaps I could use my few remaining magnums for now. Thanks.

Nice! The first 3 shots out of this barrel back in the early '70s after loading up 58gr/4831 w/ 150 gr. Nosler PAR looked almost identical.
